To me being "proud" of your nationality, race, etc. is ridiculous. You have no control over any of that. Be proud of your accomplishments, your family and things that you are able to "do" not "be". Yeah I'm proud of being a white, Jewish, American with Russian and Polish roots. Whatevsss...

I'm proud that I'm a healthy 42 year old in decent shape that can provide quite well for my family.

btw, I am Italian and proud but I don't go beating people with pasta noodles and hanging flags all over everything I own

You are missing Mexicans! I live near the border and there are lots of Mexican flags flying. "Lean like a Cholo"

Your name fits you.

harvey 04-30-2011 12:14 AM

I'm born in Italy, but Argentinian by choice, and I feel pretty proud of both my native land and my chosen home. I understand it's a question of coincidence and everything people said, but it's also the place where my loved ones live, the place where we have my friends, the place which I am a product from (by education, context, culture, etc). And last but no least, having the choice of being able to choose where to live and what nationality I am, I chose Argentina. FTW! :thumbsup

sambucas 04-30-2011 02:32 PM

Sometimes I'm a bit confused about it, because the country where I was born ceased to exist and I have found my self in another country that doesn't always have good things to say about Soviet Union. I guess they have their reasons. However there is one guy that always makes me proud to be Russian ....

Look at that Dutch crazy people wearing orange when there is someting to do.
We are not proud of our country, we are proud of our soccer team!
And offcourse our queen, when we got a day of for he party.

The government is always wrong, to much taxes, to much speeding tickets, traffic jams, harry potter as president, to much pampering.

Even our politic leaders look like cartoons

shermo 04-30-2011 10:53 PM

Proud of my ancestry and what they did to be where we are today. I feel a connection to the Irish Culture, as I was raised in a household that kept many Irish traditions. I am an American, and love living here as well. I appreciate the sacrifices that many men and women made before me, and that many men and women are still making to this day.

I don't believe there is any shame in being proud of what made you who you are. Those that say that their ancestry or nationality means nothing, just might not appreciate it or understand it.

Take pride in who you are and where you came from. =)

AdultKing 04-30-2011 11:03 PM

Australia sucks, but it's better than the USA. That is all.

Im British. It sure makes travelling easier and im proud of the historical and culture connections but im becoming less proud day by day when looking at the kind of interventions we are involving ourselves with.

Doug E 05-01-2011 01:52 AM

I'm happy to be human and lucky to have been born in a good country. Pride is a sin, I'm not religious but there's a reason for it. I'm not big on nationalism, people in and behind power use it to manipulate the masses into conflict with other masses.

I'm myself 50/50 Russian/Ukrainian born in USSR and there was no single moment in my life i can tell I was proud of my nationality, especially dealing with Western world. I had to prove a lot to earn some trust.

I am a pretty little Dutch girl
As pretty as I can be
And all the boys
In the neighborhood
Are crazy over me.

My boyfriend's name is Patty,
He comes from Cinncinatti,
With pickles for his toes
And a cherry for his nose
And that's the way my story goes.

An even longer version

I am a pretty little Dutch girl,
As pretty as pretty can be,
And all the boys in my home town
Go crazy over me.

My boyfriend's name is Fatty,
And he comes from Cincinnati,
With a cherry on his nose and ten fat toes
And that's the way my story goes.

One day as I was walking,
I heard my fatty talking
To a little Dutch girl with powderpuff curls,
And this is what he said to me.

I love you very dearly,
I love you so sincerely,
So go away and fly a kite,
And everything will be alright.

Never heard of that song. To explore your Dutch roots you should know the national Anthem.
