I often wonder what different experiences (if any) gay people have had that differ from straight? what % of gay people were abused as a child? what % of gay people come from single parent homes? of course there is little to compare it to since the majority of the population is straight..

how far does it go though? sexual orientation isn't a choice...so being into bondage a choice? is getting turned on by animals a choice? is being a pedo a choice? is liking whatever kind of music a choice? is being religious a choice? is everything pre determined? if not, it seems people like to pick and choose what is and what isn't.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing most of those people are older, and in their 50s / 60s, right? I chalk that up to simply societal stigma. When they were a young buck of 22yo, you simply weren't allowed to be gay. I grew up in a small, redneck oil patch town myself backs in the 90s, so I could just imagine what it would have been like in the 60s or 70s.


And that's the million dollar question. Nobody knows. There's been decades of research done, and still no conclusive evidence whatsoever on what causes sexuality. I'm not a doctor, so personally, I don't give a shit. I just know there's zero chance my sexuality is changing, everyone is dealt a hand of cards in life, and the hand itself doesn't matter so much, but how you play it does. :)

Often, and I am mostly talking from my own life here, the idea that you could play it straight in life is a nagging voice in your head and you try to do everything you can to fit into the expected mold. Some people can convince themselves that they are actually happy that way. They probably actually love the straight partners they are with but know that it doesn't feel right but struggle on for the sake of that love and for an 'easy' life. Then there the others that can only repress their real feelings and desires for so long and then simply have to get out of the straight relationship because they are finally admitting to *themselves* that their feelings are real and can not be fought.

Just because you are born some way (and I fully believe I was born bisexual) doesn't mean you are comfortable with it from birth or that you can easily shake the expectations of family and society.

I am pretty sure though that we all love watching straight people debate the truth of our emotions as if they aren't real emotions if the general population votes no.

Personally, I find labels very limiting. Why on God's green earth is someone's sexual orientation so important that we refer to them that way as if it defines their whole life?

That being said, anyone on a forum called Go Fuck Yourself whose little feelings needs to be protected deserves to be made fun of a bit. We're all too self-important for our own good.
