And just look at this forum, if it takes that little to offend you then you should be posting somewhere the posters are warm, caring souls instead of being a bunch of 12 year olds pretending to be adult webmasters.

Whether people realise it or not, the whole issue is about whether you're born gay or if it's a so-called "sexual preference" (a simple choice). They are the pro and con sides.

On the one hand, if it's a simple choice, then it's never a hate crime, and it's never disciminatory, and there's never an equality issue.

On the other hand, it you're born gay (like you're born a color), then it's a hate crime, it's discrimination and they are forced to live an oppressed life without the rights guaranteed by their country to equals.

This is the keystone of the entire issue whenever there's a perceived civil rights issue about homosexuals.

There's been 2 issues in the national news recently that brought it to mind. The beating of the transgender girl in mcdonalds and subsequent question of hate crime or not, and a bill in tennessee to ban mentioning homosexuality in sex education classes (author of the bill says, predictably, "why should we allow discussing someones choice?". Again, hinged on the same point.)

This is a private board of course, but I'm just saying.

I know there are two schools of thought on this subject and you are illuminating both sides. Having said that in my own personal opinion it is an extremely rare case where homosexuality is a choice. I know you are not saying that it is, I just wanted to say that and to go on and say; because there are people out there claiming it is a choice and tacitly approving of violence and discrimination against the GLT community has lead to extremely high instances of suicide among gay and lesbian teens

we need to pull our collective heads out of our asses and approach this subject like grown ups ya know? As for the rules here at GFY... I humble submit to Jedi Eric :)

I agree with your point about hate crimes. If the intention of them is an additional deterrant, it's ineffective. It had to be more of a social political thing that was a notch in someones political belt.

I think the suggestion is that babies play normally and naturally together and it's only from outside that any thought of racism comes into their thinking. I dont know if anyones ever looked into the genetics of racism for example. Sounds interesting to me though being a nerd and all that.
