What's stopping someone from getting all your browsers saved passwords?

This has bothered me for a while now, I'm surprised I haven't heard of this happening to anyone.

If Chrome can import all your Firefox saved logins, what's stopping a virus from snatching them also?

And how are they saved anyways, is it just a simple encryption?

you can always use masterpassword on firefox, and if that doesn't feel safe enough for you (for me doesn't), you should use something like "Keefox" plugin for firefox. It stores all your password in secure keepass database, which is encrypted and can be secured in many ways

It's maybe true, but then you are open for keylogger attacks

How about you don't surf where you work?

I always have used that rule myself... Because I am the brainiac of my group of friends and family everyone comes to me with their computer problems... 9 times out of 10 the problem can be traced back to looking at really strange, crazy, illegal or otherwise far-left porn. I am talking housewives too... amazes me sometimes!

The really cool thing is I am a pretty open book and blunt. So I tell them all what I just said so they all know they all were looking at some pretty nutty shit. So it is like, Steve gets me on Facebook telling me on my wall that he needs me to work on his computer. Now Kathy, Stephanie, Greg and Tom know that Steve looks at dicey shit too...

Just a big happy family of fucked up people...

i dont think chrome can import logins protected with master password.,
or else this would be cracking.,
but anyways ., this should have thought by coders, i guess simple javascript can also fetch those passwords...

Have a good antivirus program constantly running in the background.

so what makes it impossible to do that?
a well designed malware basically has full control over the computer, so they can do whatever they want with it... if FF can import passwords, so can malware....
