They think that sleep paralysis was one of the motivations behind the Salem Witch Hunts. That and ergot fungus which is one of the main ingredients used to make lsd. Ergot is a hallucinogenic fungus that grows on rye which they used to make bread. Some of the local girls were tripping their faces off, and people thought they were witches. A couple people said they were attacked in their sleep by witches, really they were suffering from sleep paralysis.

Used to get it quite often.
Fucking scared the shit out me the first few times because i never knew what the fuck was happening. After that though, you learn to control it a bit more, and you just let it go for a few mins, before it goes away.
Usually happened to me after a night out clubbing and taking E lol...
