Big News: AIM Healthcare shuts doors for good

By MikeSouth
April 21st, 2011

I have been hearing this since they shut the doors for "remodeling" last week I have now confirmed it.

AIM is shutting down all services, including the satellite draw stations. They will process everything currently in the queue and then that will be it. they have laid off all employees.

Word is AIM simply can't recover from the database breach. Unofficial word is they are afraid of being sued by the performers over the lack of security regarding the data. Presumeably they would have insurance that would cover that, but hey we are talkin AIM here.

I don't really understand people's glee over this either. There are only a few practical options for talent to get tested in all of the U.S.. Even though procedures may not be perfect, losing one of them is a big problem. Talent Testing Service runs a pretty good business in my experience so hopefully they will be able to pick up the slack.

Me either... their methodology seemed very good at finding HIV positive performers, and at least in the 2004 outbreak, they did a good job of quarantining people. LA County shutting them down in November made even less sense--they closed a clinic with a good track record of detecting HIV to make the industry safer?

i think all performers should be given HIV and then there will be no testing required...

all problems solved...

South is a contrarian so that's to be expected a bit.

I wished Mitchell would have resigned, it was the right thing to do. But like some incumbent congressmen she wasn't going down without taking the ship with her.

I'm sure LA County had a good reason for shutting them down, otherwise, they wouldn't have.

Talent Testing Service doesn't have the non-stop drama AIM has. Why is that?

The good news is... Luckily for porn valley there are options.

The bad news is... AIM is probably going to get its balls sued off over this data leak.

I totally agree with you. Mitchell should have resigned and AIM should take its legal lumps and move forward, bettering their service and security of patient information.

But what's to be expected when you have ex porn star with a GED and an internet PhD certificate running a health clinic?

DWB, no doubt it is unfortunate, but I don't know that there was any specific negligence on AIM's part in relation to the data leak. After all even the most secure servers can be hacked. And in this case it wasn't even necessary since any one of the hundreds or maybe even thousands of people with a password could have simply browsed the database alphabetically and copied it manually if they really wanted to. I'm not saying that wasn't more that they potentially could have done for better security. But until a problem of the magnitude of ************* unexpectedly arises by someone bent on doing spitework, it's difficult to say how much security was enough.

On what I presume is a related topic, I did notice recently that on Talent Testing Service producers can no longer browse the names of talent in an alphabetical hyperlinked listing. One now has to type in a first name, last name, stage name or other identifying information before given access to that person's testing results only. Wouldn't be surprised if that was a new security feature in their user interface.

I have a lot of friends at AIM who are on that staff, and my heart goes out to them. It ain't easy finding new jobs in this economy.

But therein lies a point. When confronted with an issue that affected the community it serves, TTS made changes that strengthen the system. AIM on the other hand dug in their heels and refused to change. Difference in corporate culture so to speak. And the CEO/Director sets the tone of policy.

On the other hand, there's this report.

Time will tell which of these conflicting reports is accurate, I suppose.

think about that

No idea Jim. I know there is a class action suit coming against them so it will be up to a court to decide. It could have been a literal hack or an inside job, no telling at this point.

But I do know that my leaked data came from AIM, from my very first test with them. Nothing for me to worry about, but the stage name is what gave it away. Oh well.

Xbiz is saying they will reopen. I think this whole thing is a great learning experience for everyone involved, so if they do in fact reopen, maybe they can come out better on the other side once the legal dust settles. While I have my own personal thoughts about AIM, I don't wish to see anyone lose their job. Especially not right now.
