I dont think the locals wanted it there. Theres seems to be a big backlash against Tescos and other big stores over here cause they are killing off the smaller local biz and also they want the big guys to pay more tax towards the Uks deficit

Great logic. I wonder who can afford to recover from the riots easier . . . the chains or the mom and pop shop.

yep.. this year we have seen more and more riots across the UK.. People are really not happy and im wondering if this will eventually fade away or get worse.

There has always been a dislike for the big stores over here by some people, specially in the smaller villages. It has killed of a lot of small local farmers along with a lot of small bussiness who just cant compete with thier low prices

but that's dumb, today they are rioting, tomorrow they will shop there because it's $2 cheaper...

IF having that store there was actually bad for everyone, no one would shop there and the new store would be forced to shut down...

ohh there are poeple who wont shop in any of the big supermarkets because they are so against them. I have spoken to local people who would rather pay more for local produce than buying something from a supermarket which is imported from another country.

I was talking to a lady and she told me that she point blank refuses to buy supermarket meat from New Zealand or any other country and she pays more just to buy local British meat

The other thing I have also come accross is people being angry because the imported meat is so much more cheaper than local produce because the locals just cant make a profit when you have huge supermarkets buying in bulk from abroad.

Its kinda crazy when you think about it ..Its cheaper to buy from abroad than buy from your own country

Having said that there are some supermarkets who are now buying locally

Big fuss and lots of objections to the nearest Tesco to me while it was being built but it hasn't been short of customers since opening.
