about 6 years ago, I was doing IT for a manufacturing company in San Diego. They had 3 offices and 2 satellite locations. In total about 18 computers, in diff rooms / physical locations.
Microsoft office - Fully Legit and paid for - Started misbehaving.
After 3 days of calls to microsoft, it sill would not work, and we decided to do a full re-install. Despite having bought the orig discs etc, the SNs would not be accepted. Again, another couple of days of phone calls. No joy.
Solution? I D/L a copy from Pirate bay and intall that instead. No SN needed and the orig issue is resolved.
Never did get to re-install the paid versions. Microsoft stopped returning phone calls.
Personally I almost never buy DVDs and every time when I do buy one I am instantly reminded of why I hate those thing so much and why I almost never buy them anymore.
you buy some series DVD set. Every 3 or 4 episodes you need to get up and insert another DVD. Every time you insert another DVD you get the same annoying clip about how piracy is bad. Every episode starts with the same annoying clip/logo of whoever produced the show....
As I've been running my animation business for the last few years, I've been slowly getting legit with all of my software, and even buying some new ones along the way. I finally made a $3800 purchase to make every software I use in my business 100% legit and owned by me.
I can honestly say that it's been more of a hassle, dealing with licensing issues, registrations, etc -- but I sleep better at night knowing that I'm not a thief. It's also nice to know that the software police won't come knocking at my door(not that it ever happens to anyone).
The last, and most important thing is that the people that make my software which is indispensable to my business are getting paid for their efforts, to keep improving the tools -- and stay in business themselves.
Same for the movies. Who's going to make your movies or porn you love so much if you don't give the artists the money to keep making them? It's a simple concept, and anyone that doesn't understand that is a fucking dunce, or just wants to bury their head in the sand and expect someone else to pay for the impact of their theft.
By the way, if you can't skip the trailers with the "skip" button, you can always fast forward through them in a couple of seconds. It's not that big of an inconvenience.
I personally like going to movies/theater...
Never watch movies in home, on rarely on TV (because of commercials) and never buy DVDs since after I watch it it became junk that second...
