Years ago some asshat thought it would be clever to register 4 different variations of a popular domain name that I have (a registered trademark) and proceeded to throw sites up that were similar to mine. When my Attorney sent him a letter similar to the one above he responded back that he would sell them to me for $1000 a piece along with some smart ass response that I didnt own the english language. So then not only did I have him for violating my trademark I had a case for cybersquatting which he could have been liable for $100,000 for each occurrence. We filed a Federal lawsuit and he wisely settled for 25k and the domains.
Yeah, but face book is a generic name, it's not a Panasonic or Toyota. Trademarking words or common phrases is big bullshit!

Renew the domains for ten years, and do nothing with them: no site, no parking, nothing.
If you use them in any way, they'll have some flesh to bite in, but if you don't do anything, there can't be any copyright issue. That's the kung fu of domain names.
They will be so pissed off they let go such great domains, they'll contact you for an agreement. And you save your face, which is what is at stake here, no?

Any update on this? I'm in the same boat, got a similar email. Took down both of my domains and letting them expire but I'm really hoping they leave it at that...

So what idiot told you that keyword stuffing established brands into domain names would be "excellent for SEO" ?

Whatever you try to do to keep the domains, you will lose. You are infringing on their trademarks. Trust me, I know. I used to own Applecomputer.com. It is not worth the fight.

"Apple Computer" was a trademark until cancelled in 2003.

So here is your answer get domains like facedickpornhub to resolve all your problems and start flying again.
Unless facedick is someone's trademark like pornhub.
Or dickbook dotcom which could also be someone's TM .

The question is what if the your sites are not social network sites ....... can they still chase you ?

                          variations of name

How far can you take variations before they can say its not an infringment on their trademark. I mean what if only one word is same eg FACEDICKPORN, FACECOOKSEX or FACECOOKDATES or any other variation using three words but only one is from their trademark and its a not social network site. No doubt these ideas would have emerged from their success but you are not quite taking their traffic here.
