Can't US players open accounts with the help of some non-us friends and use proxies?
Would this work?

u-Bob 04-16-2011 05:20 AM

fulltiltpoker.com still works fine over here in the EU, but their internal links now all point to the .co.uk version....

Here's the reason everyone got stung,This guy was facing doing 75 years for "allegedly" handling over 500 Million USD in card transactions for online gambling.

The FBI grabbed him in Vegas last year and he disappeared.

Now he's been released and is supposed to be under witness protection and a star witness against at least 11 Gambling operators.

Goes to show there is no honor amongst thieves :)

As he handled all the transactions I'd expect some pretty incriminating evidence has been handed over to the F.B.I to save his ass.

Well.. most of the poker sites allow VISA deposits... This was awesome when Epassporte was around. Now that the new cards like Paxum and Payoneer are MC, you can't fund your account with them...

So if your friend will put up funds... this would work and you don't need proxies... You just need to not be a US citizen.

Nice of the US to be telling the rest of the world what to do though, one of those sites was incorporated and running largely offshore.

I think if it was fully offshore, domain name also, they would have been safe.

still rather cloudy issue , the computers aren't in the usa so they are "gambling" in a country it is legal..

some states like tennessee gambling is illegal , but it is not illegal to go to vegas and play poker. when you are playing online poker you are kind of playing in the country the computers are..

This is much like canada arresting donald trump for facilitating gambling for canadians who gamble at trump casino's

Frank21 04-16-2011 10:39 AM

haha good for them fucking pokerstars stole 6000 euros of me by making me loose everytime on the fucking river.
With their fucking poker bots i hope the owners get arrested and have to work for 25 cents a day in jail.
Make them feel how it is like to be ripped off.

Come on, it's based on where the person is located at, not where the server is... go download some cp, and then try using the "but the server was in Kazakhstan" defense and see how that works out... :2 cents:

what they're going after these guys for is the money laundering and deceiving US banks that the transactions were for phony businesses selling pet food and golf balls etc.

Additionally I wonder who is going to pick up the majority of this business now since the top 3 have been essentially sunk?

There's too much money left on the table for others to ignore. A new set of industry leaders will step up to the plate. Online gambling isn't going to go anywhere soon. More clever ways will just be thought up to get around US laws. Of course, this will cut down on the popularity of the new sites since gamblers would have to go through more hurdles to pay in / get paid out.:2 cents:
