The Third Man (1949)
The Magnificent Ambersons (1942)
Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
Rebecca (1940)

Feel free to add.

I just caught Shawshank Redemption on AMC this past weekend. I hadn't seen it before, but have seen lots of parodies about it. I liked it.

I prefer "Classic Chris"

But serious movie buffs need to look beyond the last 3 decades. Almost NOTHING good coming out of Hollywood in the past 10 years compared to before. It's a money driven business now, which isn't all bad.. but creative movie-making has definitely suffered.

The Third Man is great.

add
The Sadist (1963)
Carnival Of Souls (1962)
Land Of The War Canoes (1913)

on edit, just saw Coen Brothers True Grit, far better than the John Wayne film.
Also on the adaptations/oscars front Winters Bone is pretty core.

It's a shit movie. I'll never understand why it is considered to be so great. No tits, no zombies, no talking dogs, no explosions, nothing that makes for a truly great movie.

I'm not much of a repeat movie watcher but whenever I come across one of these three on TV, I always watch. I should just buy them. Great movies.

Run Lola Run - seriously? I think somewhere someone had decided that this is a good movie and then people keep recommending it - different and weird, I would give it that, but great? Don't think so.
