    Why Americans aren?t prepared for the next mega-disaster

    I have multiple flashlights, a battery-operated radio, several bags of grains and 20 pounds of dog food. But if Washington faces the kind of disaster that Irwin Redlener says will inevitably happen?in some U.S. city?and I have to escape from town or seal myself in my rowhouse for any period of time, my future looks grim.

                                  being a little prepared is not the same thing as being one of those end of the world fear mongerers you see posting on this board all the time.

                                  Even if you stock up on a little extra food to keep you indoors from a bad rain storm could save you unnecessary risk of traveling in it. So just a good idea to be ready for a rainy day at all times.
