Adobe offers monthly subscriptions now for Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc.

No more excuses to use cracked software, you can use photoshop legit for just $35/month now.

IMO a long overdue, yet still brilliant step. I think this will make a lot of people reconsider downloading it illegally and just paying. Most people spend more at StarBucks each month.

Maybe that will help them reduce the cost overall

I don't agree with that.... as you can use lots of other tools that will do exactly the same as PS that cost a lot less...

thats a good idea. i know a lot of people who cant afford to shell out $500+ at once for a software license so as much as they want to use a legit copy, its to difficult at first

if they introduced a 'pay to own' type model it would be good, other than that cutthroat on the backs of new business

I do 3D animation, and have spent thousands on software for my business during its 5 years. I know several people who have their own freelance business, and still used the cracked versions of software.

Even though they can write it off, they'll still opt for the free version. I'd rather spend the money on being a legit business, rather than giving it away to the government.

so fucking what. i simply stated the price point is too high based on the fact the total expenditure over 1 year = the cost of the product and THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

So the fact that it makes no sense is irrelevant to the fact that people will still do it. That's so what.

Doesn't seem that great to me.
I think the price to own photoshop out right should be $50.

I will say that Flash CS5 is a great tool but I also use a $50 program
that does the same thing (Koolmoves).

I think photoshop should have been bundled with windows.
Maybe they could bundled a beginer level PS and then people could upgrade to
PS Pro for example.

Add in a lower price point for students/etc and it's sure to bring in good revenue.

Also a low SMS payment plans for all the 3rd world countries that bootleg their products big time.

That's a comical stretch to associate nefarious activities with leased software. You think said nefarious individual would even be interested in paying for software to begin with?

Paying for your software at the very least says you're serious about your business.

At that price per month they should offer it as a rent to own thing. 35$ a month for X months and the program is yours.

Or lower it and get 50 times the number using it monthly.

Doesn't matter what they set the price at, someone will always bitch about it and want the shit for free. People have a seriously inflated sense of entitlement these days.

keep in mind that they release a new version every 1.5 years or so... so spending $699 every 1.5 years is not much cheaper than spending $35/month...

i was thinking about that. it's closer to what, $300 for an upgrade? but i don't think this pricing model is geared towards current customers. seems to me adobe garners much customer loyalty after the initial purchase. i know i've been hooked on photoshop and premiere pro for years now.

I think that is just brilliant. Sometimes I have to do a one-time job in Flash or the like, so picking it up for a month for that price would be awesome.

Why would you want to rent a program instead of buying it? Maybe you've got an older version of the software and need something newer for the short term, maybe you're strapped for cash, maybe you just occasionally need particular programs and don't see a need to pay for more than you'll use. There are plenty of good reasons to rent a program like this instead of making do without it — or without dealing with a potentially buggy or shady pirated version.

I love the idea.

I have a lap top I only use when flying and didn't want to buy yet another license. If I need to use PS when I am away where I fly too, (maybe once a year for a few days) I pay $35. All other locations I go to have my own PCs with PS loaded and waiting for me.

In 7 in 8 years I will have paid for a cheap license but this way I get 7 or 8 free upgrades along the way.

Brilliant.

Depends how badly people feel that they MUST have the latest version.

I wish Adobe would show a bit more appreciation for people who have purchased a lot of their products. I have bought a lot of Adobe software packages over the years, but, if I want to get their biggest bundled package now, they will only consider an upgrade price from one of the individual packages I have purchased. This seems disrespectful to the loyal customer. The fact that they advertise the subscription to those not eligible for proper upgrades seems to indicate they know this is a problem with their upgrade structure.
