If it is a term you own the trademark for you can submit a ticket and twitter may give you the account. If it is not and you just want to buy the account do it discretely as it is against twitter's TOS to buy/sell accounts. Twitter does plan to delete inactive accounts at some point but has not begun to yet.

if i had the registered trademark it would be a slam dunk - done that before. what this is is a case where i have "term.com" and this person has registered "@term" but they haven't used it much if at all

anytime '...on steroids' is used to describe something new, i cringe a little

i've seen it, it's too different to say it's 'twitter on whatever', and it's too new/empty to use it in lieu of twitter

Yeah twitter has been saying it would delete accounts for ages, but I've been watching accounts that are 2 years inactive and still have not been deleted.

Well, all I can say is that after a couple years on Twitter I only have a little over 100 followers. After a few months on G+ (with the same amount of effort) I have 1300+ followers.

I still say G+ > Twitter.

if they dont use twitter, doubt they'll see your @ msg to them + u can't dm them unless they follow you. good luck even getting in contact tbh.

duly noted. i'm not writing off G+ and likely i'll use em both, but right now twitter is the beast so i'll worry about G+ afterwards

very true and a hurdle i wondered about as well but there are ways around that (albeit not direct).
