We live in a different society than they do. To us, these guys are nuts. But to them, they view the world completely different -- that is both apparent and an understatement. And my point is, despite all the military might and intelligence, none of it appears to have deterred them. Even in conflict areas like Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no shortage of US/allied superior military might, and yet they continue to fight, seemingly undeterred.

For this reason, I am not convinced that a show of military might is the be all, end-all when it comes to deterring those who have an agenda against our way of life.

Exactly, we are transitioning, the new ships coming out will be different, Aircraft carriers will no longer be made that big, the new class is a lot smaller. Submarines like the Virginia Class that can house a mini sub and offer larger escape hatchs or UDT operations and have women on submarines for the first time. Then there are the new stealthy surface ships. It's happening, the F22 was the old guard.

I have knowledge of guns, the .223 will at head height go thru several faces at once, can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger and as long as you don't hesitate, yes, go with the gun

to make a long story short here, there is no way you can fire that gun at a room full of people without someone taking you out at the knees. so then, you're captured or dead, the 1-5 people that are probably still left have YOUR gun, and are now all headed to your house

with, of course, all the extremely angry families of those unarmed people you just mowed down

I don't think a BMG 50 would work in that set up, it would stop the plane, they have to be careful with the 30mm as it almost stops the plane when they shoot it

If the government was going to fix only one thing...

It should be the "Zero Sum" aspect of our budget. Know why our government has to make cuts all over if the economy is not doing so well this year? It's because last year it was doing fantastic, and we had a lot more money to spend.

It's kinda stupid to think that we're spending 100% of what we make. Kinda makes planning for the future... uh, impossible. The budget should not be a matter of "well, we spent this much last year... so we should spend this much this year." That doesn't really make any sense.

It's the one I would pick, very acurate, easy to clean and take of, easy to load, you can get a 250 mag for one, though not in my state legally

So you're saying if someone with superior firepower came in to invade the US you would just give up without a fight?

These are people fighting at home against foreigners that came and murdered their families. Don't pretend like they are nut cases, you and I would be doing the same thing should some foreign entity come in and kill our families and threaten our way of life.

The 30mm cannon is much more powerful than the .50 MG...and that is why it is armed with the 30mm as the 30mm can kill tanks and the .50 cal cannot.

It's really quite incredible how easily people misinterpret things on this board, single out a specific post within a thread, without referring to the context of the post and the spirit in which it was written, based on earlier replies.

To that end, of course I would defend my homeland, and to the death.

Had you read the earlier replies, you'd quickly see that my entire point was, and remains, that it is a flawed perception to believe one's superior military might will deter those who are determined to strike. Having a bigger military is simply not a deterrent to those bound and determined to strike. More especially a group that a group that believes a martyred death will bring them eternal rewards in an afterlife. Thus, to believe that a show of enormous military might will deter such people is, in my opinion, extremely short sighted and completed flawed.

My bad, got them mixed up
The 50 BMG in full auto will take out a tank with depleted uranium rounds that consist of a flechette dart that weighed 11.9 grams, would go thru anything

they are just scared 1 of those fighters will be shot down or crash above enemy territory and pieces of it will end up in china again. Just like the fighter jet above serbia wich ended up in china who created its own 4th generation fighter yet wich was shown to the outside world last month.
