so meni, on another board, let me know about a program called lean gains. it's not based on what you eat but when you eat. basically it involves fasting every day, so for 16 hours (from 9 at nite till 12-1 the next day, i do not eat anything at all. then between 1 and 8 i eat whatever i want to.

there's research that backs up the benefits of intermittent fasting in regards to not only keeping lean mass but adding lean mass as well. in addition to many other benefits of fasting, such as hormone output.

for the protocol to work, it has to be coordinated with resistance training, not much but the right stuff- compound movements 3x a week, about 2.5 hours total.

so i decided to give it a whirl and it does work for me and fits very well with my lifestyle.
Interesting, I'll have to look into it. Initially it seems to go against much of the normal rhetoric we hear of making sure you don't skip breakfast, avoiding high fat, high carb foods and eating smaller more frequent meals, but its worth checking out.

it throws all of that out the window. i haven't had breakfast in over 5 weeks, i have had many days where i've eaten 1 meal- and that meal had 250 g protein. which is another myth IF challenges, only being able to digest 30g protein at a time. not so. frequent meals, not necc., fat is good for you. the myth that any one of the macros (fat, carbs, protein) is the cause of obesity has also been debunked imo.

Isn't a massive helping of protein in one go bad for your kidneys or something?

Fuck knows how you manage the fasting - there's no way I could go 16 hours without eating.

it's my understanding that kidney issues resulting from protein are due to very high protein diets that also restrict carbohydrates.

the fasting is really super super easy. i grew up not eating breakfast, so that's a no-brainer, so it's all about after 9pm, which is also super easy, because i've stuffed my fat face with all kinds of fun foods over the previous 8 hours. so the hardest time is from ~10 am to 12. so i just keep busy during those hours and get work done. viola, 2 hours is done. on the days i exercise, i then consume 10g of BCAAs which give me a quick burst of energy, i work out fasted then fucking gorge myself with tons of food, i'm eating ~5000-6000 cals on workout days. that's double what my daily cal rate is.

Good job.
The old avatar and the new pic looks pretty close to me.

Have you ever tried surfing? Could make some of that work out fun for you.
