PS - sincere question, no BS :thumbsup

I'm tired of paying taxes and I don't like the weather.

Just some of the pluses and minuses.

Carlosinho is going to very happy with you.

- There is no Income tax but high consumption taxes on everything brought in to the Island. That suits me much better than Income tax.
- The Bermudian dollar is pegged to the US Dollar, so no more US > CAD exchanges for me.
- The climate is Sub Tropical, so it's not blazing hot all the time.
- Bermuda has the highest level of broadband internet penetration in the World.
- You can never become a resident in Bermuda, no matter how long you stay. Only by marrying a Bermudian can you get citizenship, and even then it takes 10 years.

The island is really beautiful, cost of living is outrageous though, you should add that to the minuses :2 cents:

It isn't in the "this is expensive" category but in the "WTF!! is this Monte Carlo?" league.

A nice apartment in the city center is 10k up, bottle of water $5, loaf of bread $10, gas $2.5 a liter...all quickly adds up.

Heh heh, I live in Vancouver and it's already killer expensive here. But yeah I'm aware of the cost of living difference. My girlfriend has lived in Bermuda before. Thanks for the heads up though!

$10,000 for one year lease? Not too bad.

It's a beautiful place but wouldn't want to live there.

Renting a two bedroom apartment/suite (there's no high rises, it's all mostly partinioned houses) seems to run betwenn $3500 and $4500 a month in Bermuda.

What is her citizenship?

Unless it's been changed in the last few years, the first up to ~$80,000 is not taxed when you live out of the US depending on how many months of the year it is. You do still have to file a return though.

its 92k as of 2009

I hear ya WarChild, im also in Vancouver and im looking other places too. It's beautiful here, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But the weather and prices of things are pretty ridiculous. 2 months of sun a year is NOT enough.

I'm planning to come back and spend July-September here each year. Probably in the Squamish or Whistler area climbing all the time.

Hey man good luck, I'm figuring out how to split up the year here too.

x582 04-11-2011 04:57 PM

What about visas and stuff, will you make a company there and employ yourself or you'll just chill under the radar?

You can open a company as long as it's not doing business there. An internet company is a good candidate.

Carlos Gracie Jr is pretty cool and easy to deal with if you want to open up a 'Barra Gracie' there.:thumbsup

Yeah, I'm already a Gracie Barra instructor so it should be no problem. :)
