Did anyone notice which particular topic(s) set the redirect? This most likely is related with someone's signature. My guess is we are heading for gfy hosted signatures to prevent this from happening again.

It happened to me twice on initial visit... not clicking on a thread.

Theo 04-04-2011 05:54 PM

thank you Ray, was it on gfy.com or gofuckyourself.com ?

emmanuelle 04-04-2011 05:57 PM

I got it today, and once about a week ago- both from hitting gfy

That would significantly increase server load but when done in the right way shouldn't be a problem, you could even setup external storage for uploads. However, people will still post pics... So, is there a really point in it unless you are going to block image bbcode as well?

Theo 04-04-2011 06:01 PM

you are right on this, but it would be a single photo or two someone would post, a signature is a recurring issue. I'll check with the techs. I remember this problem is coming up all the time over the years.

Yup. that's a good point. Single thread page eventually get abandoned and dead on so fast moving board like this one.

This url.. I have bookmarked..

i do not think its in a sig as i have gone into gfy.com and had it happen, before i looked at a thread.

but i may be wrong on that.

but i am sure i had this without looking at a thread.

babymaker 04-04-2011 06:23 PM

Finally someone is working to fix it, it happened to me first time last week when i clicked that thread about a crapy design by a 13yo in 1996 ot whatever it says not clicking there again, but it happens elsewhere too always on gfy.com cuz i dont goto gofuckyourself.

Calico Jack 04-04-2011 07:22 PM

I got it a week ago at this link: http://gofuckyourself.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26
My AV caught it immediately & removed it, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Eric 04-04-2011 07:25 PM

Anyone that can tell me what banners are displaying when they get this error, it would be greatly helpful.

If you can duplicate the issue, and tell me which banner is showing at the top and in the three bottom slots, that would be greatly helpful.

Thank you,
Eric

babymaker 04-04-2011 07:51 PM

I don't think it's a sig either because I got hit just coming here a few times, happens quick so can't remember which banners will try and see if it happens again.

Jim_Gunn 04-04-2011 08:01 PM

This happens every few months on GFY over the course of the past two years or so. There have been previous threads about it that I posted detailed info in. I got infected with this really insidious malware twice in 2010 right through the Firefox browser while browsing GFY. I had to spend two days to remove it each time. Only thing that helps me prevent it now is that I run No Script and AdBlockPlus in FF. Sorry advertisers, I wouldn't mind seeing your banners but this is a recurring problem and I cannot take a chance on getting my main business laptop infected again and again.

sig's can't redirect a page so that would be silly, it's obviously one of the sponsors, they are able to infect gfy users at free will , not a smart idea, you shouldn't let sponsors host code, your security is only as good as every sponsor you let host code. Even if lets say they were all honest , any of them can get hacked and thus infect all your surfers.

SmokeyTheBear 04-04-2011 08:45 PM

This is what happens when you start removing threads and hiding the history of known spyware/trojan vendors. karma .. Sleep with the dogs and you get fleas.

Ppl can host their code here? What do you mean by this? Is there an user group with HTML allowed in their sigs or something? :Oh crap

BTW. If yes then who can I contact to have it enabled? :upsidedow

gfy advertisers can host their own ad code, or they can host their ad code and also install trojans on gfy surfers

Flash ads is likely the culprit - they can run scripts and redirect. Flash can include all sorts of nasties.

I run Flashblock (technically it suppresses flash, doesn't truly block it; flash cookies are still set, which is intentional for Flashblock to work the way it does), which greatly speeds up browsing and, as an added benefit, makes browsing much safer.

For even more security, Noscript and similar add-ons are worthwhile, though can greatly limit usability of many sites unless one takes some effort to carefully, to ensure security is maintained, tweak various whitelisting and configuration settings.

the way openx is used on gfy means advertisers can run any code they want
