I have a lot of friends in Thailand, the trouble is, when it rains, it rains alot. It can rain in one hour as much rain as we see in some parts of eastern Australia in one year.
Im in Phuket, and transit between Bangkok and here by road has been disrupted since Saturday. All freight companies have the route shutdown. Phuket is fine though, just lots of rain.
Should also add Samui on Koh Tao have been completely cut off for days. Koh Tao especially hard hit as they depend 100% on boats for supplies. Koh phangan also probably fucked but at least the backpacking hippies will get a bath
Yup, I'm fine, thanks for asking! But a lot of people have been without power, water, gas or food for about a week. Real nasty in some parts.

J, it's not just bum fuck Thailand that got hit, the islands (full of foreigners) were hit HARD. Koh Tao, Kho Pangnan and some others. All beat to hell and back and the Thai Navy is having to rescue them. Yesterday even Koh Larn off Pattaya (500+ people) was evacuated due to high winds and huge waves.

I doubt DWB lives in the entire country of Thailand, but he lives in 1 neighborhood, probably 1 of a few diff places
I am everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I'm the stench that turns your stomach as you walk over the sewer drains. I am the little legless Burmese kid begging for change on the street. I am the whore who cheats you of your money. And I'm the fake monk fucking dogs in the temple at 3am.

I know Koh Tao has been cut off for about a week now. Not sure about Samui.
By "cut off" I mean no power, no gas, running out of drinking water, running out of food. That's the shitty thing about island life, when things go sour, you are up shit creek if you're not prepared for it.
I'd at least keep 2 - 4 weeks supplies if I lived on an island.

400 miles to the nearest beach but Laos and Cambodia is only around 75 miles away but we have 15 7-elevens, multiple KFC's, Pizza place and cheap beer

Wow, you guys are coming along. I remember back when you could count the 7-11s on one hand.
Little known fact. Thailand has the 3rd largest number of 7-11s in the world. But when you're here, you'd swear they are #1. I know one area where I live where I can stand in one 7-11 and see THREE MORE within walking distance and TWO other competitors between them! All of this within the distance of a football field, maybe less. Then, out of sight, and only because the street curves, is two more 7-11 stores and 2 more competitors. Total fucking madness.
Any Walmarts yet? I didn't see any my last trip. I did see a new Hard Rock opening in Phuket.
Walmart, no. But we are getting a few Ikeas. And yes, we do have a few Hard Rock hotels/restaurant. Oh, and we just got our first Krispy Kreme. The locals are going nuts over this place and you can easily wait in line for 2+ hours to buy anything. Mega success.
I would be interested to see how Walmart would do here. We have a chain called Big-C that is the same concept, but a little smaller. Another called Lotus, which is as close to Walmart as I've seen. Very popular.
I'd blow half of boys town for a few Papa Johns though. Get a serious craving for their pizza sometimes and the nearest one I've found is in Shanghai, China. We waited over an hour to be seated there and it was totally worth it!

At least you specified Thai tho, some westerners worry about "those there in Asia"
so what would be better? People not caring at all? I really don't understand the point you are trying to get across here.. countries are big? Nobody should give a shit about people in Japan because its so big that most likely everyone you know is safe right?
