The idea that this industry would stick together and work as one when faced with a threat was brilliantly displayed years ago on the Acacia patents fight. Some run to get the license in the hope it would stick and others would be out of the business. Few stood up to be counted. After Acacia were beaten by the few. Everyone went back to supporting those who tried to knife them in the back. Today the biggest threat is Tubes, but people kiss Fabian's ass to get their long clips on his site. And how many people still send traffic to dating and cam sites who advertise on Tubes? Some will rush to buy these .XXX domains in the hope they become compulsory and the cost is $1,000 or more per year. To get rid of all those who can't afford it. Remember in better days all the squealing over Visa's $750 charge? Some couldn't afford it and got out. Some could and had to cut back for a few months. This in good times. Companies like AFF, Manwin and many other big ones will scream with glee if the .XXX becomes compulsory and the price is $5,000. Because it culls the opposition but leaves every single porn surfer still surfing for porn. The same income, just less to share it. It's called "Being in a real Business World." |

Personally I feel ok with .com and .net so why should I spent any money for useless .xxx? Even if it will cost one dime, I won't buy it because it will be filtered out by search engines and won't make me any profit :2 cents: |

what a lot of people are forgetting is that .com is the internet to just about everyone. you'll have to re-educate people to use .xxx. Right now, the average person hasn't a clue about it. Good luck with that since people have been using .com's for the past 15 years. its like starting all over again, zero traffic, zero everything.. |

But that is all they would be, so I won't. |

like i already said comparing other tld's to xxx (if you own a porn site) is being ignorant. If you own livesex.com and they come out with .co, .me, .us How many people are going to start typing in livesex.me ? NONE. How many will type in livesex.xxx some people will, especially after the media educates them and makes them aware that there is now an "adult area of the internet". I wouldn't be surprised if tens of thousands of people start typing in adult domains with .xxx just to see what is there. If you really think this is the same as .me, .co, . whatever, then you are insane if you can't see the huge difference. |
if i own adult.com you can't buy adult.xxx ,i have first option to switch my adult.com to adult.xxx ,i am not sure if will work like this but it should be like this.

how much mainstream publicity do you really think .xxx will get? i bet not much. all the news channels will talk about it a couple times for a couple of weeks maybe then its old news. its going to take a huge, and i mean massive marketing campaign just to let the average person know xxx is out there, let alone want to use it. if i am totally wrong, then hey, it wouldn't be the first time. anyone out there who thinks .xxx will kill adult .com's is welcome to email me with what you want to sell, i may take it off your hands for rock bottom prices because i am a nice guy like that..:thumbsup |

There is already an entire business segment waiting to explode onto the scene to deal with .xxx and many other proposed TLD's. I'm not saying I agree with this direction but like Will I think people are delusional if they think this will do anything but grow. :2 cents: |

Let's see which companies suddenly go on hiring sprees, buying up lots of toys, etc. By and large people tend to flaunt their greed in this biz, so it's a question of time to figure out who helped sell us out. |
I hate this .XXX bullshit as much as the nest guy here, but if you think all the porn companies with deep pockets are going to pass up buying the best .XXX names. YOU ARE FUCKING CRAZY AS HELLLLLL!!!!! The little guy with $70.00 to his name that gets lucky and gets xxx.xxx is gonna get rich from it.
We all knew tube sites were a killshot on the online porn industry, but how many people here have them now? If you boycott them you will be the guy without a good URL if the gov ever does throwdown and make it manditory for all porn to go on .XXX. You will be fucked. As it is it's a fucked up situation but the guy who gets porn.xxx or sex.xxx etc....... will be the next one to make big $$$. :2 cents: |

who already own porn.com and sex.com have the first option to switch to porn.xxx and sex.xxx ,u can't buy it :1orglaugh:1orglaugh |

a - trademark holders b- holders of the .com will be 'pre-ordered' in the landrush and will go to auction and sell for higher prices than any 'little guy' could ever afford. unless you already own the .com YOU WILL NOT GET A GOOD .XXX FOR 70 BUCKS. lets say .xxx is a huge success, 100's of thousands of domains bought..ok so now what? 95% will be parked, 4% will forward to the .com of the same and 1% will be new sites. So why would anyone want to type in or visit a .xxx site? You'll either get a parked ad farm or the same as you would if you were to type in the .com. |

I've pre-ordered brazzers.xxx :upsidedow |

Many of my domainers have gone from portfolios of 11,000 domains, to 7,000 domains, to 1,400 domains within a span of only 2 years. IE: they are letting them expire by the truckloads. |

Its amazing how you think my argument is that ".xxx will kill .com's" when I have never said anything even close to that. I simply said this will not be the same as the release of .me, .us, .co etc... You seem to think it will be no different than all of the other tld's. I'm saying it is going to be different, some people WILL go to .xxx. I never said, nor do I think it will "kill" .com's. However, I think enough people will go to .xxx for porn related names that it gives it enough value that a lot of people (either .com owners, or domain speculators) will buy up a shit load of .xxx domains. The media has already started: http://www.google.com/search?hl=&q=....aa1da5ed888593 and once the first .xxx domains go live they going to be all over it again. Correct, very few people type in words today for .com's to see if something is on the domain, but when .xxx comes out people are going to be curious, there will be a lot of type in traffic for good and great keyword adult domains. So what if it dies down after 6 months or so. So the 500K registrations that happened the first year, so what if only 250K of them renew the next. Either way its a huge win for asshole Lawley and a big loss for us. You guys can smoke on that optimism pipe all you want if it makes you feel better, but it is pretty easy to see how this is going to play out. |
Quote:
If the .com owner of a top domain like sex.com isn't able to get sex.xxx then I can guarantee you that domain will not go up to the general public for the normal cost of registration. It will either be an auction or preset, very very high yearly fee. Either way, Lawely isn;t going to give anything away, and the little guy still isn't going to be able to get shit. |

A group of us should petition for a .adu extension just to compete with (and further dilute) this .xxx bullshit. We can state that "the industry" prefers .adu, and go from there.
