Is the Japanese RADIATION FALLOUT media story just HYPE to stoke paranoia?
When looking for truth its always prudent to see a story from differing perspectives. Here's a view that doesn't get reported in the media all too frequently. I'm sure we'd all hate to see attention (and help) diverted from those who actually need help due to media hysteria and anti-nuke agendas.

Your "factual points" are being disproved by events currently unfolding. That's how.

That's hilarious. Reminds me of that famous painting Las Meninas. Where is the Truth? It depends on one's perspective and agenda

just to give ya a headsup, i started a thread here sat about this very thing, the fact that all the news is jumbled, confusing and contradicting.
i was lambasted by the gfy for daring to try and get to the bottom of it all then. nevertheless, i do think the media has distorted the living shit out of the 3rd disaster. but, the fact remains, of all the reactors that have been affected by the earthquake/tsunami, 1 of them is taking a shit right now. |

I don't know for sure if the media is to blame per se, but the truth is that people are too scared of meltdowns and radiation when there are much worse things going on all around them. The burning and exploding oil refineries will hurt and and kill tens of thousands. The oil spill in the gulf has destroyed much more than anyone care to realize, etc.
Reactors bad? NO! Grow the fuck up people and learn some grade 9 science for fuck sakes.

Yeah, you guys are right. Multiple explosions at nuclear reactors are pretty minor and no cause for alarm..lol

Yargh.. they're saying right now that they had to pull the workers out due to radiation risk. Don't think it's paranoia at all. The heat can be such that even if you pump in water it steams instantly, it doesn't cool anything as steam.
Those workers are basically sacrificing themselves as it is.. they wont survive this exposure.

People often push a counterpoint or counter intuitive argument as a way to seem insightful, as if they can see through all the bullshit. But it's artificial and a form of pseudo intellectualism.
Truth is, nuclear power plants pose an environmental risk. When they are burning and exploding, it's a cause for alarm and most definitely a news story. Pumping sea water into a reactor is a sign that you have lost control of that reactor, contrary to that article which states that the reactors are totally under control and have been for days. This is an unprecedented nuclear accident. How it will turn out is unclear, but it is unprecedented and therefore a legitimate news story.

What some of you are missing is that if the problem isn't the disaster that they are telling us, then the effects are controlled and executed for maximum theater. So pointing to this or that effect as proof of it being real doesn't prove anything.
Now the question is, why would they do this? Insurance fraud? Unlikely. Secretly place a substance in the iodide tablets being passed out to the public that serves some evil purpose? Probably not. Scare the world into moving away from nuclear power and towards clean energy? That is going to be BIG business in the 21st century, and this crisis has the strong potential to nudge things along faster the worse it gets. Would they purposely melt a reactor down in the name of scaring the public into supporting clean energy? Could someone else besides the Japanese be behind this? Remember, the US government created the virus that attacked Iran's reactor and damaged it. Could something similar be going on here? They are allegedly having issues cooling the rods, which is a pretty simple process. Pump water in, it heats up, pump it out. So what's the problem? Why is the water boiling down and exposing the rods? One of the biggest disasters of our time and yet they can't get the necessary pumps? What's going on here? |

We dropped two nuclear bombs on them and we're fine. This isn't going to be any worse than that.

Pretty simple I think the pumps failed when the power went out. The backup generators were ground level diesel powered that flooded out. They worked until the tsunami wiped them out.
Maybe they should have had solar or wind or tidal system in place. But who could have guessed?

Yes and no. The news coverage is certainly used by certain groups to their advantage.
On the other hand - dropping water on an atomic reactor is a last resort. So things are pretty dire for that plant.

It's not that prediction that we should be scared off. It's the people who believe in prophecies like that who could actually make it come true.

I honestly don't trust anyone on this one. Truth is, they probably don't know.
We all know radiation is bad. Now there is a surplus of it. That means it can't be good. Common sense takes over from there. Japan is not evacuating its citizens for nothing. Even if it's all blowing out into the sea, it will come down and into the water and into the fish, which in turn people eat. |

BREAKING GOOD NEWS:
The power line to this suicidal clusterfuck of 6 nuke reactors all in one facility on an 9.1 faultine is almost repaired. Once the juice starts running again, the pumps that cool the reactors should start working again. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...i002205D47.DTL

BTW, my post above was an attack on the writer of that article, not people discussing whether it may true. Discussing possible hype and writing an article in which you paint a picture that the reactors were shut down in a controlled manner as if it was business as usual is just so far removed from reality I have no idea how it was even published.
I have learned one thing though. If you ever walk out of your front door and see Anderson Cooper in your neighborhood, you're fucked.

Wind and solar stocks jump in wake of Japanese nuclear crisis. Shares of clean energy equipment makers are rising as much as 27 percent for the second day in a row. Analysts speculate that the meltdown in Japan has permanently changed the value of nuclear for the worse.

The yen soared to its highest level against the US dollar since the second world war - setting a new high of Y76.36 - as investors grew more confident that Japanese investors and institutions will sell foreign assets and bring money home for reconstruction efforts.
