Pet Hate! Ad Sizes from some sponsors

mine is sponsors who pay $100 or more per signup but cant afford $100 a month for new banners.

Yes, that's pretty lame.

One of my sponsors has really odd sized banners, no good for placing on an ad network!

Yes it's frustrating i feel your pain...

If it were up to me all sponsors would have 300x250, 300x300, 468x80, 728x90, 120x600, 160x600, 600x150 and 940x250

No, that doesn't bother me at all. If it's ok with the sponsor, I usually make my own banners anyway.
What annoys me about sponsor banners are those with the BIG PAYSITE NAME DOT COM on the banner, especially those who add the www. just to make sure the surfer remembers it later. It's their trademark sure, but to my way of thinking, it's also their way of getting type in traffic rather than having to pay affiliates.

Just because some people in mainstream said those are the standard, for sure doesn't make them the standard.

Most standard sizes only produce, average, ctr results. Yeah, a few in the right spots, rock it - but overall, they suck.

Combined sizes or splits with the padding removed, off shapes, and banners created to fit your design - out perform standard sizes almost every time. And they're almost always different than the next guys site, ie more fresh to the surfer - which is another reason why standard sizes suck it up.

What if 100 affiliates ask for that? Turns into $10,000 a month. How many of them will send good sales to cover them? It's not about affording it, it's about necessity. If they pay you $100 PPS you should be able to afford your own banners.

I agree unusual banner ad sizes are fine and have their place but when you run a large ad network over hundreds of sites, you really need standard size banners.

i bought some jeans today, and they were the correct size. If a department store can provide mass produced jeans in te correct size, then surely a program can???
