This is SO TRUE

“Wealth is relative, and to some extent the more you have the more you realize how much more you need”

It is more relative to where you're comfortable living and what lifestyle you're comfortable living. If I'm comfortable and pleased living in the middle of shitville out here, and my net worth is $1,000,000... I'm in great shape. If I want to live somewhere in a good neighborhood in some pricey city, that $7,500,000 may be a "good start".

Almost every idiot in the country has more than they "need", here in the states.

That doesn't mean you are wealthy. You still need to evaluate your purchases carefully.

IE: a mid-class house @ 300K takes 30% of your cash, a luxury car another 10%

Then if you want to remodel or whatever you easily spend another 10%

If you can spend half your money on such basic things, you got money but your not wealthy and you'll likely be broke in 5 years

They should put it into the tax code. You report more than $1 million a year? You're required to take a 1 week trip, touring shit hole villages in 3rd world countries.

Yes, you are free to make your own choices. Some people choose to excell at something, so why should they be penalized for stiving to be better ?

I'm assuming you're from the US, correct? Go ahead and excel all you want. Remember though, ignorance and lack of empathy is what drove the entire US (and world) economy into the ground.

$1,000,000 really ain't that much anymore. Especially if you're counting assets. Any farmer with a section or two of land has well over a million in assets and the majority of them aren't living like kings...

I agree, I would even say $10m would be about the right number.

If you live for another 50 years and only have $1,000,000 cash.

That means you can only spend $20,000 per year, not a lot of money when you think about it!

If you had $10,000,000 you could spend $200,000 per year and live comfortably.

I'm in Canada, not the US, but still there is a hell of a lot more to it, than ignorance and lack of empathy.

Middle class for $300K? Average cost of home in the US is HALF that. And it only takes 30% if you pay it off all at once. And if you did, guess what, no house payment so less expenses. Hell where I live a $300k house would put you in the top 1% easy.

luxury car? Who says you need a luxury car? Is your self esteem that low you need a luxury car to make you feel good?

Sorry if you give me $1 mil right now after taxes I can make that last.

Everybody has different goals. The type of people that make 3 or 4 million are not satisfied with it. In most cases that is a major factor to why they made it in the first place.

What is says that money buys happiness up until $75 K after that additional money does not buy additional happiness. I can be perfectly happy with $75K a year. Of course I don't have a need to blow money on coke and whores.

What about that makes them stupid? They are the people that make the world go round. Without them the mcdonalds people love to eat at would close at 10am when the owner had made enough to be happy for the day.

I had an employee we fired 8 months ago hit me up. He was telling me how happy he's been and is just relaxing collecting unemployment. That is what I call stupid.

It's silly to call someone stupid because they have drive and goals and aren't satisfied until they hit them.

I would say that sounds like a good number but at the same time if someone handed me a 1-2 million cash I could easily make that last and live very well for the rest of my life.

No house payments ever ? What about the yearly taxes, maintenance, etc, you think that's all free ? Add easily 5-10K/year for that

Besides we are not talking about being able to make the money last, we are talking about reaching a level where you feel rich and can do what you want when you want without concerns of price.

Wealthy is "above the norm".

If you can afford a house double the price of the average house that's wealthy!

And you get some very nice places in the $1,000,000+ range.

Well worth the extra cash if you've got it!

I would take over the world with my hands on $1 million. Fact.

Really though, if you had a million, that doesn't mean you have a mill and you're never going to have another dime again, if you have even the slightest intelligence you are going to take that money and invest it to make more. Unfortunately many millionaires don't have even the slightest intelligence.

$1mil isnt crap, only time id be happy with $1mil is if i have only one year to live...

but $1mil is no real money.. u forget someone who makes a modest $100k/yr and works for 40yrs will make over $4MIL in their lifetime
