Anyone who breeds dogs should have to have a license. To get a license you should be required to work at an animal shelter assisting with the euthanasia and disposal of all of the unwanted dogs.

Breeders should be much, much more heavily regulated.

The dogs which have come to me for care (One does not OWN dogs, even though under the law they are considered to be property!) are rescues; all but one, which is the offspring of two of my "original" dogs and is my Dream Dog, if you will.

He is protection trained, huge, kind and loving but scares the shit out or people because he barks at them.

Little do they know, he is barking requests for tummy rubs and treats.

If most of the Goddamned breeders would just stop for about five to seven years, through natural attrition, the canine population would be reduced to a point at which it could be handled.

Breeding should not be halted on certain breeds though as they are rare and not part of the problem.

Placed a Chihuahua today for a gal who had to move to an aprtment and could not keep the dog. Went to an elderly couple who will spoil it silly. Dog will worry for nothing now for the rest of its life.

Happy little fucker with its new Mom and Dad.

I used to kill dogs all day long at the Humane Society in Minneapolis. Not just dogs but ducks, cats, hamsters, turtles, just about anything you can imagine. I've killed THOUSANDS of animals. NONE of those deaths had to do with overbreeding, not one. They ALL were the fault of lazy owners who think it is fine to dump a pet because they were moving or having a kid or whatever.

Lots of people BUY dogs rather than adopt one from a shelter. Somehow they feel that purebreds are better than a mutt. If some jerkwad buys a dog from a breeder rather than adopt one from a shelter, a shelter dog dies.

I'm always baffled by idiots who think overpopulation isn't the issue. Spaying and neutering should be required and breeders should be limited to X number of puppies per year. Irresponsible ownership and breeding are the problem.
