Trailer: Pixar gears up for Cars 2 this summer

Quote:
Apart from the Toy Story series, Pixar haven?t indulged themselves with any sequels. The groundbreaking animation house have had more than enough ideas to produce an original feature film every year since 2003?s Finding Nemo. But with a number of beloved films in their back catalogue, not to mention plenty of box office successes, it comes as no surprise that they have eventually succumbed to temptation and dusted off some of the old hard drives that don?t house Woody and co.

What is surprising is the film from their illustrious stable they have chosen to offer a follow-up to. One would have thought The Incredibles or Monsters Inc would offer the most obvious subjects of a sequel (in fact, the latter will have a second chapter next year). But Pixar have chosen one of their least successful movies for a second outing.

Cars was a good, if not great film, but somehow lacked the spark of Pixar?s previous four offerings. Suffering from a similar grounding as the brilliant A Bug?s Life, the film was the subject of a necessary dip in Pixar?s stratospheric trajectory.

Pixar seem all to aware of this, and believe that Cars still has some tread on its tyres.

So this summer sees Cars 2 burn rubber on our cinema screens. Pixar?s first spy film will see Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and best friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head to Europe to take part in the first-ever World Grand Prix. But Mater unwittingly gets embroiled in the world of espionage which takes the pair across Europe and Japan.

Cars 2 will be released in the US on 24th June, with its UK release a month later on 22nd July.
