Mobile traffic to increase by factor of 26 by 2015! still don't think its the future? ;-)

Everybody knows that the iPhone changed the mobile world as we know it and perhaps the iPad and tablets associated are also shaping the future but if mobile internet usage has tripled year on year for three years then surely there is no doubt what the future holds?
I'm no prophet and im sure a guy i spoke to in Barcelona who said "in 2 years time it will be uncool to have a laptop" is not either but one thing is for sure - if you are not on the mobile bandwagon, now is the time to get on it!

I still think people only jerk off to mobile, because they HAVE to.

I think that mobile phones are only going to get more powerfull and charges for
internet will drop and this will mean that the current websites we have now
will work just fine on mobile phones in just a matter of months.

You can already use Opera mini, or FireFox 4 on mobile phones.

For this reason, I think that by the time my websites "go mobile" it won't even
        be needed.

Because someone made it up and it stuck like shit on a stick just like a whole
            lot of other useless dribble.

Just put that in the same bag as the following :

            - PHP is better than CGI (PHP is CGI)
            - Flash is dead, HTML5 killed it (just stupid)
            - chmod 777 is dangerous (you need a fucking new host)
            - these is no money in porn (yeah, that's why you're still here)

There wasn't a phone that could really surf the web well before the iphone. Of if there was no one was buying it or using it.

                Not true.

Mobile phones and the InternetSee also: Mobile Web
The first mobile phone with Internet connectivity was the Nokia 9000 Communicator, launched in Finland in 1996. The viability of Internet services access on mobile phones was limited until prices came down from that model and network providers started to develop systems and services conveniently accessible on phones. NTT DoCoMo in Japan launched the first mobile Internet service, i-mode, in 1999 and this is considered the birth of the mobile phone Internet services. In 2001 the mobile phone email system by Research in Motion for their Blackberry product was launched in America. To make efficient use of the small screen and tiny keypad and one-handed operation typical of mobile phones, a specific document and networking model was created for mobile devices, the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). Most mobile device Internet services operate using WAP. The growth of mobile phone services was initially a primarily Asian phenomenon with Japan, South Korea and Taiwan all soon finding the majority of their Internet users accessing resources by phone rather than by PC.[citation needed] Developing countries followed, with India, South Africa, Kenya, Philippines and Pakistan all reporting that the majority of their domestic users accessed the Internet from a mobile phone rather than a PC. The European and North American use of the Internet was influenced by a large installed base of personal computers, and the growth of mobile phone Internet access was more gradual, but had reached national penetration levels of 20?30% in most Western countries.[citation needed] The cross-over occurred in 2008, when more Internet access devices were mobile phones than personal computers. In many parts of the developing world, the ratio is as much as 10 mobile phone users to one PC user.[63]

im with you, i think data charges will have to drop significantly if the usage is to grow by the amount suggested in the article

that being said, i have a bottomless data plan with my phone and so i can view a normal website on a mobile now. Can i see everything that is written on the site? can i play videos on it? will i likely bounce out of the site and go to one that is properly rendered for a small screen and pay for my product there instead?

the other thing to think about is that billing options on mobile make it so much easier to convert its traffic hence why conversions on mobile are higher. If a user can simply click and buy and pay for it with his next phone bill, the conversion is much higher than asking someone to get their credit card out when they are: at work/on the hoof/tube/bus/car/train/living room with the mrs in the other corner................
my point being that you will still need to go out and get operator billing in place if you want to give yourself the best chance of converting your traffic even if your site is viewable on a mobile phone so now is as good a time as any to organise it no?

No. I think you will wait to get on your computer and come back to my site
because the curiosity of not being able to see everything will drive you nuts.

The reason you hit my site is because you thought I had what you wanted.
Otherwise, why are you there? You'll still think I have what you wanted because
you already know some sites will not work that well with your phone.

I see the same IP switching browsers on my site within minutes; some of that
could be people on the phone switching back to the laptop because my site works
                    in all other browsers.

                              Of course it is growing.

I think the question for webmasters is "do I need to do anything for this".

I'm saying that it looks like within months, none of us will have to make
a "mobile site". My sites already work if the phone uses a "real" browser.

                              Open Opera then view/developer tools/page information/view/small screen

Now go to your site to see how it works.

This is the future because it's not practical for the entire internet to make
duplicates of their websites, plus each phone can be different which could mean
multiple duplicates. Even this site still has problems with IE8.

People can't get IE right, but now they are going to master mobile?

                              I'm not betting on it.

People want adult material, or access to adult material on their mobile devices. This should be obvious to us all.

We should have rolled out http://m.adultvideolink.com/ months ago. It's getting impressive numbers of organic signups. Affiliates who push it will be very happy indeed.

Yes, I'm only using search. But even a banner must get your attention before
you click. Why click a baner that you have no interest in?

So either way the surfer has some measure of curiosity built up before getting to the site,
                                  unless it's a blind link.

Mobile is on a definite trend upwards.

At Xlovecam we have had our mobile platform up near a year now and are currently working on a v 2.0.

We are seeing good mobile sales ? more that enough to justify further mobile development.

you click. Why click a baner that you have no interest in?

So either way the surfer has some measure of curiosity built up before getting to the site,

I guess i mentioned it as if you were running banners aimed at attracting mobile users, one would assume you would be doing it on a site site that had large volumes of mobile traffic - that is to say probably asite which rendered to fit an handheld device. If you had a mobile sized banner on said site and a user clicked on it and landed on a site not optimized for a mobile device the chances of a bounce out would surely be higher?
