If you just want to back up some data files you could look at an online backup like mozy.com. Free for the first 2GB.

think about that

I just went last week and picked up a Seagate 1.5TB external drive and it has a backup feature on it and it backed up all of my things in just a little while. I have a hard drive and possibly a cpu failing and had to move fast.

It backs it up every night at 10:00 PM for me.

I use a Netgear ReadyNas and Acronis True Image.

Can't say enough good things about both.

I use Acronis True Image on an XP system with external drives on the network.

Critical files/folders back-up every 4 hours.

Very configurable and I know my data is now a lot safer than before

Acronis finally got it right with this last version. I use it for Win 7 64. Perfect.
