My first poll. Be gentle, I heard it pinches alot the first time.
I have always been curious about this. I know how my circle of acquaintances feels about this, but not the "community" at large. I know we got everything from Goody Goodies like Unseen who never heard an mp3 or a downloaded a piece of warez... to people like me. So it should make for some good whining. And the whiny girls need to be exposed and ridiculed. Here is the way I see it. Given that I know how easy it is to get all the necessary things like serials, cracks, patches etc... it would be akin to sticking a case of beer in my fridge and telling me to ignore that case of beer and to go to the store and buy it instead. Im drinking it. Fuck going to the store, there are people there. I am not saying it is right. I have heard all the usual arguments already so spare me the rhetoric. I dont care if Juju Julalibad in India isnt getting my 5 bucks to register Leeto Spellchecker v1.0. He should have worked some protection into that shit. If its so weak a 14 year old Norwegian kid cracks it, fuck it. Its mine. I am only human. And I do buy what I cannot crack. Which isnt much. I bought NewsRover. |

Buy most of it. Got a few mp3's (most of which are old tapes I bought back in the 80's and can't find anymore), and a couple pieces of software, but for the most part everything is paid for.

i buy the adult software too (the few ones available), i have licensed version of W2K,W98,office 2000 etc, due to office requirements, but you won't see me buying every single program i'm going to use today and maybe tommorow that costs several thousands.

Music is one thing I cannot even begin to remotely understand why anyone would buy. You have to listen to some pretty obscure shit to not be able to find it online.
Esp if you love ANY of the more mainstream genres from classical to punk to techno to rap, there is more online that you could possibly download. I had to buy a 80 gig drive just to store my music, and I listen to bad music so its not as easy to find. I gotta imagine you hip hop and techno freaks gotta have massive collections as there are so damn many of you out there to trade with. Again, no way I am going to buy a cd when I can download it free, 6 months before it is even due to come out. phht right. |

i never paid for my favorite drawing program. then, one day i decided it was time to pay these dudes for their great software but their site had shut down and the software was no more. i can't upgrade and now have to use the demo version forever. maybe if i and a few other had just forked over the lousy $64, the company would still be in business.

Or maybe you should download better warez?
I been using cracked versions of photoshop since I cant even remember. Its the easiest piece of software to get free thats for sure. And now with shit like Kazaa... it even more freakishly easy to get warez. It used to be actually hard to get this shit. The late 90s early 00's should be seen as the decade of warez for sure. I think thats why photoshop is almost the standard. Because everyone I know has it, yet nobody I know has paid for it. |

Also let's go back to basic, I started using computers at the age of 6 and I'm sure if not most, many of you here started at very early age. Do you expect a kid or a student to be able to afford to pay software to learn the art of the computers? Personally I had problem to afford changing computer over years and I was waiting whenever my uncle will remember to give me his old (for his own stantards) computer to get it. And these moments were some of the happiests. Imagine now having to pay for the software.

I use cracks and warez of course.
The last crack I had for my graphics package wasn't so good though, the company is smart, you can only access all the templates they have if they mail a cd to you (after you've placed the order) so I still have the demo version. As far as music I just use Kazaa ...Can't believe anyone with a computer would actually go buy a cd .... |

I admit, I would not be where I am today without warez and cracks. However, I find I am now, as I become more established, buying all of my software. I've gone beyond the stages of newb warez user. I can't afford to be creamed with a bunch of warez on my systems. Plus it's all a big ass write off.

I have to admit that I am the sort of user who has never ever paid for any software, except for
a. Adult software (that is hard to find, and in most cases cheap anyway) like RS, GASS, LUP, b. Games that are worth buying. If I feel like the40 bucks is reasonable for a kickass product like WarCraft 3, I do pay it. On the other hand, all my Windows versions I ever owned, Office versions, burn tools like Nero, Photoshop 6 and 7, PSP, Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver, I got em all out from the web, kazaa or found appropriate cracks at astalavista. I could afford the software I use, but why should I, when I can get it for free ? Don't see the newbie warez behavior there, elighten me. |

Fuck I started out with cracks and warez, back when I was younger, but now that I have my own business I do everything legit.
Payback is a bitch though because our Strip Kittens software is showing up on a bunch of warez sites lately. Now I know what the guys I used to rip off must have felt like. Jak 2 legit to quit |

My adult software is licensed (arles, linkup) but my graphic and html designers are cracked.
I have a shitload of mp3's, but I also buy a lot of cd's... I just don't have the time to go and search for complete albums and I love to have the original covers and stuff.

Personally, as far as Legit / Non-Legit apps is concerned... I'm going round and round in a whole bunch a fuckin circles with it all at the mo
 picture me, 6 /7 years ago, just starting out...(ThatWeeLadInTheSomewhatMuchSmallerCorner) All i have is kracked haked apps... shit, i didneee pay for NUFFIN'.... Come to think of it... I dont think that I even actually paid for my bloody PC either ! fast forward... to approx a year n half ago... OK... im older, Im starting to get somewhere... I got "resposobiltys" etc... Im Living in UK, and my profile of being "innvolved in porn" (Shock Horror !) has eartnt me one "visit" from the law allready... (They was just being nosey really, It truly was a farcical raid, keystone kops time... tottaly another story... But I digress) So, despite no PC equipment/apps being in house at time... Last thing Im wanting is they come back again, and finding themselves being totaly frustrated by their inabilty to get me 4 "PORN"... that they take the piss and lock me up over an old copy of say MSword 97, on a grubby old CDR... So, i have this brainwave ! lets go legit... I decide to Pay for and be good etc, from then on... BIG MISTAKE !!! after spend a fucking fortune... A FORTUNE... new os,(xp) licences, ms offxp, #4 macromedia suite, (then the MXone ) photoshop6 , plugins litle extras etc etc... Im there with pretty much al i need bought n pAID FOR, RECIEPTS N BOXES ETC, all lined up on my desk... So did i get a rosy glow of satasfaction ? did I FUK! Its actually at this point on... Problems are full go... where2 start ? (in no partic order) I travel a lot but cannot have certain office apps ie fp2002 on PC... AND laptop... Ohh no... A HENIOUS CRIME... then when i updateUpgrade a pc... XP no instal, etc, As far as microsoft stuff goes I find myself spending more time on fucking phone to MS dictayoing trings of 50+ numbers, and basically havvnn to ask THIER PERMMISION, for me to use the stuff i bought n paid for... than actually using the fucking products, (or in xpcases, the PC's or laptops themselves) as for other stuff.. Have to find bloddy lost SN install numbers etc, keep all my good disks close to hand... then if I cant find the biit of cardboard wiv number on it... Or if i goi USA 4 a bit, BRING THEM ALONG TOO.... Ahh fuckit... To much shit 4 me by far... So, i as the legit paying customer, get workflow intterupted regually.. But the gy wiv kazza or whatnt, n his CDburner, not only dosnt pay in cash... but he dont pay again and again in 9nconveinece cause the problems dont effect him ;-) Lesson Leartnt though... I will just by the cardboard boxes 4 me shelfs in Future... n its obvious why ? anyways... bed niw, but you did ask,. ;) Cheers 4 now and Excuse awfual spelling... I read how with the new SP1 for Windows XP, Microsoft is crackign down on the activation keys for corporate XP Pro. I think I'll spend the $130 now and get a licensed XP Pro

i bought some games.. i usually download them first and play, if i like it, i buy it.. one reason is that i wanna play it online and the other reason is i feel like supporting them.. i want better games to come out in the future
 as far as Microsoft goes... i think they are putting a blind eye on this issue.. well, it may seem that they are getting more serious about this on every release of windows, but what i believe is, they rather have people not pay for windows and use it, than having people use other OS.. and i am not as much as a power user i used to be.. i dont remember visiting astalavista for months maybe... all i need is my text editors, chat proggies, winamp and a simple image editor.. no need for more

heh only reason i dont use warez copies of adult software is because people in the adult business are sue happy and almost everybody got a personal lawyer...but as someone else said, i wouldnt be where i am today if it weren't for warez...

I can't remember the last time I bought a new music CD. I feel a little guilty downloading for free but can't help myself.
Half the time its only 1 or 2 good songs and the rest are shit, so I don't like spending 20 bucks for 3 minutes of music. On the other hand I always buy games if I want them. I've never played a full version computer game I didn't buy. |

I buy software....for the simple reason that if you get caught
with illegal software and you´re making money by using the software they will even fuck you a lot harder than for using it for personal use. Shareware stuff....if I like I buy it.....the best example is UltraEdit. I love that editor so much I bought 2 licenses just because I think it is worth so much more than the price 1 license cost. The guy who wrote that app deserved some support. Basically if I like it I buy it....else I won´t use it anyway. MP3´s I just download it made me buy less CD´s but I do still buy them. If I really like something I´m not going to spend 1 hour downloading all tracks of an album and then burn it onto a CDrom....for that effort I might aswell just pick it up at the store. DynaMite
