Need help - Video programs - GoFuckYourself.com

I am pretty new to videoclip editing and compression for putting them in my members area, but finally I start to learn abit, and I've made some clips I want on my site.

I got them edited with this very easy program Pinnacle Studio 8, and even I understood how to do it

But... Now I need to ask for some tips and hints for how to put them on my website in the best way.

The clips are now in .mpg format. Someone told me a good solution would be to make the clips in different formats, like .mpg, .wmv, .avi or divX for example, and then let the members choose what format they want to download.

I was also told I should let them choose between modem, broadband high and broadband low...

Now my questions are:

1) What formats do you think I should have the clips in (hopefully not TOO many different formats...)

2) What program(s) should I use for making the same clip in different formats?

3) How do I compress the clips, so it gets faster to download for my surfers? Should I also .zip them, to make it even faster, or are many surfers too dumb to understand how to unzip the files?
(I know some are...)

4) And for last: OR would it be better to also have the files in stream? If so, I am planning on buying a dedicated server from ISPrime, never been with them before, but heard alot of good things about them. If you have personal experience with them, would you recommend them? Can I have my videos streamed then, in good speed and quality?

Hope someone could help me out, I want to upload the clips tonight...Thanks a bunch!

sandra... get vegas video from sonic foundry to edit and cleaner 5 to compress/save in any format you want.
vegas video do save in a lot of format either, but cleaner 5 do it with a better compression

do mpeg for broadband users and wmv for low band users.

do not zip it, and i think surfers like downloadable movies, this way they will download the movie and watch it any time they want to.

1) Everyone can play mpegs... id probably stay away from divx, people seem to have too many problems with that.

2) There are alot of simple free conversion tools out their you can use; avi to mpg, mpg to avi, avi to mov, and so on...

3) Zipping will not reduce the file size of movies. You can purchase TMPGEnc and create files with lower bitrates/framerates/smaller picture size to create smaller files.

4) I think most people will be happier with mpgs or whatever, with streams they will not be able to download the files onto their harddrive...

Ok, thanks for the tips! I'll try my best, hope it turns out not too bad...

So I'll go for download only, no stream, and I have the formats .mpg, .avi and maybe .mov ? (Can you teøll me what players are used to these different formats? What about Mac users?

I'll try that vegas program and the cleaner program too...

I've heared Adobe Premiere is the best tool, but I' must be too stupid to understand how to use it....

If anyone have more tips to add, please let me know
