IMO everyone likes a different type of mattress... I recommend putting on some sandals or something and heading down to a quality mattress place.
Lay on every bed like you were going to sleep on that thing; bring your significant other if you've got one. Just go to town and lay on every one of them for at least 5 minutes.
I, personally, prefer a more firm mattress with a pillow top... but that's just me.
And drop whatever cash it costs... seriously don't skimp out, you spend almost a third of your life on that bitch, it's worth the cash!
I have the same problem so bump for some answers! God, I HATE my bed!!!

3 things you *absolutely* do not skimp on when we do what we do for a living. Find what you like and pay what it costs...
A Bed
A Chair
A Monitor
I too prefer a firm mattress with a pillow top in the California King size. Don't forget about quality pillows & buy 3 that you think you'll use the most (firm/soft/in-between) and then get 2 of each in the firmness you don't think you'll use that much. I can't tell you the times that I went from firm/firm to firm/soft or soft/in-between for the night out of comfort. Better to have them on-hand instead of laying your head on your pillows and just not being able to get comfortable that night.
Had a Tempur-pedic for years, they are absolutley great if you live in a house with the temp set at 72 or less, once I moved to Florida where the temps in the house is 77/78, the beds get too squishy and they suck.

Spot on. It always amazes me that people won't spend a few k for a bed but they'll gladly fork over 50k for a car.
if you are in the USA and spending less than about 1800.00 on a king, you are buying junk that will significantly degrade in 1-2 years
HOWEVER, that being said .... Sam's and Costco have a king size pillowtop Sealy thats about 1k including the box springs. It's pretty comfortable, but the best thing about is is Sam's and Costco's 'no questions asked' 10 year warranty.
In a couple years when you can tell it's starting to sag a bit, haul it back and get a new one, no questions asked.
No matter what the bed or price, they wear out in a few years. Maybe you don't notice it but everybody is different. Those with back pain or hip pain will notice just a slight amount of wear, others will never notice anything after 15 years.
But they all wear out within 5 years, it's impossible to make something that can handle your body weight for 8 hours a day to last ten years. Such materials don't exist.
i personally do not like tempurpedic. I feel like your body sinks and it is a pain in the ass to get up. I have a Sterns & Foster. Something with the coils where if someone is sleeping next to you, they do not feel anything. It is extremely comfortable and is the perfect fit in between firm and plush.
Try this. Put the top slim mattress right on the floor and sleep on that for a couple of days. It may be uncomfortable at first but after a few days you should feel great.
Just bought a King size bed 4 months ago, got a Sealy Mattress and I can't recommend it enough. My girlfriend has never slept better in her life than she does in this bed.
I feel your pain guys (literally LOL). I am in the hunt for a new bed as well, i was thinking the tempurpedic bed's might be more marketing than actual bed but maybe i will check them out.
I have a cheaper memory foam bed from Costco...
Took me a week or two to get used to it, but now I like it more than a regular coil bed...
I don't love it, but it's better..
Every person is different and like others said, you must go test out some mattresses first before buying. If you buy a mattress online without every trying it, just ball up the money and throw it away instead. It would be the same thing.
I, like you, was in serious pain due to sleeping on an old, shitty mattress. Finally decided to upgrade and man was I pleasantly surprised at the difference. I feel like a million bucks now each morning. It's like night and day. I'm only 30, but before I got this new mattress, I felt like I was 60 years old getting up out of bed each morning. Aches, pains, poor balance. And yes, I eat right and exercise regularly, so it wasn't that. I'm only 155 lbs. Run, stretch and work out regularly, wear the same pant size that I did in High School. So I was like, wtf is wrong w/ me? Why Do I feel so shitty all the time.
Answer was the bed I was sleeping on. I probably could've spent more, but after a trip to a local Sleepys store and doing some research online, I decided a firm latex mattress was best for me, and I bought this. No joke, I couldn't be happier. I've only had it for a few days, so can't tell you how it'll hold up over the years, but the difference in my body is amazing.
