Dumb Idea
I just got an email from a well know Industry message board that their General Message board is now for "Ïndustry Veterans"with 100+ posts. Been a member there since 2005 and have 76 posts so guess I dont qualify. Then again I dont do LOL, sig spots or fill posts
I can send them a support ticket and I quote "The second way to gain access to the Private forums is to petition us directly. While we will only grant access to known adult industry professionals with a proven reputation, if you feel this describes you then please visit www.dumbideas.com and open a support ticket with your request for instant access. If your request is not approved, it just means you aren't yet known to our staff, and you can still access the Public forums as always while you work towards access to the Private forums." Honest to God....why would I bother? In an industry with issues, these are guys running a tradeshow. Has to make you wonder how anyone joins this industry. |

Time will tell if it is a good idea or not.
I cant speak for the owners of the forum, but I am safely guessing that they are trying to offer an area that is accessible only to people who are really in the industry and have something to contribute to this industry. I fully support the idea, and Im one of those members who does not have 100 posts. Nothing wrong with trying to keep the civilians and trolls out. ![]()

I'll tell ya here again what I told you on YNOT: http://www.ynot.com/showthread.php?t=72794 I've had dozens of requests from people asking to be bumped up to veteran status and I've done so in each instance without a complaint. And like I said I bumped up yours as well. You can't please everyone all the time. But then again if you don't want to "bother" let me know and I'll zap your account as well. Your choice.

This post actually made me go over to the other board and check out their private industry vet area.
I actually kind of like the idea. Thanks for letting me know about it ;) |

Umm... no you didn't. It's impossible to delete your own account on YNOT. It requires admin (me) to do it.
To everyone else... thanks for the good word... hit me up with any questions or help with your account ![]()

This industry is hurting and I am lost that people would shut out any new people that may bring fresh ideas and a fresh perspective. The reason my post count was so low on YNOT was I do not do sig spot posts, LOL posts or similar and the reality is the forums at YNOT have few people posting. I doubt the decision to restrict access to any forum will boost traffic or benefit advertisers. The decisions offered make 0 sense as I didnt see anything earth shattering or that needed to be behind closed doors. If this industry continues to shut new blood out, make post counts rather than substance a measure then I guess one board will suffice but I doubt that will be YNOT, at least with existing policies. End of discussion from me...... |

YNot is not shutting anyone out. They are making a part of their board semi-private... something that has been pondered here by active members for a pretty long time. Grats to them for taking the step to take control of the board even more and provide a more serious section for those that want to use it.

Their forum their rules, though there are quite many alternatives if someone doesn't like it.

No one is "shutting" anyone out. We welcome newcomers more than just about anyone and are known for it. Ya see, there's an incentive to reach "veteran" status and it goes beyond lurking for several years. We are a community and we want people to participate in the community. Ya know... the whole bounce ideas off each other kind of thing. And we aren't soliciting your so called "LOL" posts either. That's pretty ridiculous to suggest that. Perhaps if you contributed more to the forums over the years we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Anyway, I invite you to start your own resource site and run it how you like.

True, I will back Jay on this. I can't recall that community being a breeding ground for "See sig" / "LOL" / or Fatfoo-ese
