Sometimes, big numbers are just big numbers. Obama gave his cabinet 90 days to cut $100 million in spending. What does that really mean?

I think it means he's cutting the budget like it said he would do.
"$100 million here, $100 million there, pretty soon even in Washington it adds up to real money.....None of these savings by themselves are going to solve our long-term fiscal problems. But taken together they can make a difference and they send a signal that we are serious about changing how governments operate," ~ Obama

Damn, that's a lot of pennies. Also, the value of those pennies are going to sink harder once all the QE schemes the FED is doing are over.Comment

Good visual - I hope both Dems and Reps watch it, because neither side understands.

I watched it... It's a great example of how much of a difference every little thing can really make, and like Obama said it's going to take more than just one.
What it's not, is all budget cuts, past and future... and it doesn't take into account the 13% reduction in spending over the last year. Overall, if we look at any single budget cut like this, we will see it's a fraction of the budget - so not really a good example to look at.Last edited by TheDoc; 02-01-2011, 02:30 PM.

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

Who Said: "We will go through our Federal budget, page by page, line by line, eliminating those programs we don't need."????
According to the Cato Institute, who stated the words in the title of this post? Congressman Ron Paul, that crazy libertarian type out of Texas? Somebody out of that wacky tea party crowd? One of those nut case Fox News hosts? No, those words were stated by President-elect Barack Obama in 2008

Rand Paul has introduced a bill to cut the budget by $500 billion. Only 1/3 of a budget deficit. People are flipping out about his proposed cuts. To think people are flipping out over cutting down our budget 1/3 of the deficit makes me wonder how sane those people who are flipping out are.

I love it. Everyone is going off about the need to cut US spending, but almost no politicians will suggest cutting military spending. The US spends more on its military than all other countries combined (I think). You might want to step that down a notch. You realize it would take 20 cuts to eliminate one stack in that example, right?I watched it... It's a great example of how much of a difference every little thing can really make, and like Obama said it's going to take more than just one.

I figured it would take 1000's of cuts to get it down to where it should be... That's what line-by-line is, it's not one big slash... it's lots of micro slashes. It's not like any Congress is going to simply slash it like it needs to be, so logically you take away little bits at a time until you get it down... rather than fighting over one giant slash that will never happen.

It is time to bring ALL our troops home. Lets start with Germany (and the rest of Europe) and Japan then go from there.I love it. While we are at it we should cut off all foreign aid. We can not afford to borrow money to give it away.

If we are spending a 16th of a 'penny' unnecessarily we should not bother to stop spending it that way because it's a small amount?
That doesn't make much sense. We are more likely to save money by cutting 100 programs that cost 1/4th of a penny each than by eliminating programs that cost 25 pennies in their entirety.
The real question, which matters far more than what we can cut is this:
What can we spend those pennies on that will earn more pennies than it costs?Comment

Good laugh thanks!
