    Photoshop CS5 Suddenly Laggy

Im not sure what other tools are laggy, I think liquify might be 5-10 percent slower but where I notice it the most is using the spot healing tools, theres about a 5 second lag. The smaller the image, the less delay but even a very small image, it still lags. The pencil and paintbrush tools seems to be fine but that's probably because they arent that heavy on resources. The spot healing tool seems to be unusable its so slow.

I have been using this program for a long time now and this has suddenly occured, I haven't installed any new programs or windows updates and my hardware seems fine. I ran memory tests, harddrive tests, I swapped video cards and changed video drivers. I even reformatted and installed another copy of CS5.

    I have an i7 870 processor, 6gb ram, 500gb 7200rpm hd, Nvidia Geforce GT320 1gb.

Any ideas on what could possibly be the issue?

Well I ran harddrive tests and no errors, it's also a pretty new harddrive and computer. All other processes outside photoshop seem to work fine. I have done alot of copying between drives and my computer is running nice and fast.

Actually it does it with the smudge/blur tools also, so it's most likely all brushes

Ill try swapping harddrives and update you though.

I remember there being issues related to printers on the network that would cause the application to slow down, but beyond that not sure.

Wow thats alot of work. Have you tried resetting Photoshop? Hold down the keys Ctrl-Alt-Shift in Windows (Command-Option-Shift in the Mac) while starting up Photoshop and you'll get a dialog box that says "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File?". Saying YES will reset photoshop to its default settings and clear up any gunk.

If your computer is still slow after this (and fixing all of the other stuff you did) maybe its a problem with your hardware. Have you checked the cmos to see if you're running at max CPU speed? Or is your computer seeing all of the RAM it used to?

Yeah I checked to make sure it was seeing all ram, also ran the memtest program.

I actually did try the resetting photoshop settings (control+alt+shift).

It must be hardware, im on a new drive right now and its installing. We'll see if it's harddrive failure, if so. That would be very strange as I haven't had any other harddrive issues and tests came up negative .

Also it's not my computer that's slow, it's actually going faster than every before, no lag anywhere. even loading up menus in photoshop and opening documents load fast, the photoshop program also loads up quick

Just with the brushes it seems like

I just tested on new harddrive. Brushes are still lagging. Harddrive also not the issue.

Ill check bios to make sure it's showing the proper cpu speed.

Edit--Says the correct information for my processor

I know how to fix the problem, but it will take about 20-30 minutes to guide you through it on the phone, i'm not into typing it on a fourm. I don't think anyone reads this shit anyway.

CS5 on OSX lags on all of the machines we installed it on. I actually went back to CS4 on my iMac because I couldn't deal.

                  Spend you some brain.

right, because every action and tool used on a file is auto-written to hdd, and "Save" button is just for kicks because you used to it from all other programs and does nothing and RAM is just useless upsell to get more money out of you ;) imagine the possibilities - your PS crashed, you reopen your psd file at the state right before it crashed!
