    Photoshop gurus: howto get this effect

    it's not a 3D effect, but I like the "aura" effect here ... can't imagine they cut out every celeb and then add a border?

      you trace the shape you want... the head... you make 2 or 3 more layers of the same... put a color overlay on each one behind the main head and as the layers ascend behind the main head, enlarge them a small percentage...

      tada...

          sounds like it, but if you look at the guy, you see that the red "layer" is like fading with an orange taint ... won't achieve that with the steps you described will I?

              The pics themselves don't look like pics, more like oil pastels. Not saying that this isnt PS art, but something has a hand done quality to it.

              What deej is saying will get you that effect. You don't even have to enlarge if you want to replicate, because the top and the bottom of each image is cropped, you can actually slice the layers down the middle and shift right / shift left for each color. You can see that's what they are doing if you look at the hair on the blonde to her left. The Zak Effron (or however you spell it) actually has a yellow layer, then a red layer, not a fade.

                  trace shape.. copy.. paste.. copy.. paste.. copy.. paste.. apply a small stroke (color of ur choice) to the top layer.. apply stroke to each layer, making the stroke wider as you go down... up to you which you want thicker...

                  you can always tweak the opacity and blur the stroke or glow the stroke, etc etc.. make the effect its own layer and play

                      I bet you could use the cutout tool, then use the magic wand on whats left to make an outline, then add a stroke however you want. You can tweak the magic wand outline a little bit to get what you want.

                      If you are good with the pen tool, it might be faster to trace with that instead.

                                  Well, it's either for fags or 14 year old girls. I'm going to lean towards 14 year old girls though, as I'm not sure fags are even gay enough to care about them (in the non-homosexual sense)...

                                                      Thanks, I like it too. I messed around with some artistic filters trying to get that pastel like finish, didn't really get close to the original but I guess it didnt really matter was surprised how much of it was lost when I resized.
