Helmet to Helmet Hits...
I've been in many an arguments regarding what seemed to be a blatant helmet to helmet hit in last night Jets/Steelers game. Shonn Greene seemed to be on the receiving end of a vicious helmet to helmet hit from James Farrior while being tackled on a run down the sideline. This hit was not flagged for a penalty but during the multiple replays you clearly see Farrior launch forward w/ his arms by his side, clearly not trying to wrap up or make a tackle on Greene, and blast him in the face w/ his helmet while other Steelers defenders had Greene wrapped up. The impact was so great pieces flew off from one of their helmets and or face masks. My argument is this:
Is this new helmet to helmet rule ONLY in effect for QB's and Defenseless receivers or is it for ANYONE at ANYTIME? My stand is that is it for anyone at anytime. I've looked and looked for the NFL's ruling on Helmet to Helmet hits and no where does it state that it is only for QB's or WR's and NOT a running back going thru a hole or anything of the nature. Seems totally moronic to think that a RB would be allowed to be subjected to a hit like that but someone else wouldn't. Can anyone find official NFL wording regarding such or do you know the actual NFL ruling?
