    User rating systems on "social sites"?

    I've notice that some big websites that accept user content are changing or removing
    their user rating systems.

    Some have removed comments also.

    Do you think that allowing users to rate other users content is mostly a negative or
    positive thing?

              Removing comments is more likely than not due to spam. I don't think it has anything to do with user experience outside removing the unwanted spam posts...

                  Agree on spam; but I've removed comments because they were asinine and useless
                  and did nothing but offend other surfers.

                  I removed more of that than spam.

                  I definitely use GFY less and less as I grow tired of certain things, so
                  I know comments do have an effect on the user experience.
