A few years back, media was reporting shark attacks practically every week. There was a big hoorah. People stopped going to the beach, etc. etc. Turns out, shark attacks that year were no more than any other year. The media just decided to flip out about shark attacks.

Ya, shit like this happens all the time. I remember one year when I was a kid, a bunch of weird salamanders died in a couple watering holes on my family's pasture land. Two big dugouts about a half mile apart. One day suddenly they were completely covered on the surface with dead salamanders. Fucking thousands of them. We never even knew they were in there, some weird deep water species of slippery amphibian that hardly eaves the water or something. Anyways, point of the story, they just all died at once for whatever reason. The fish and wildlife officers came out and took a look, then some biologists or whatever came and did their thing. They never did find out what caused it, or they at least never bothered telling us, and we haven't seen one of those salamanders since.
