Well done for doing what most people that buy exercise equipment fail on and actually using it :thumbsup

blonda80 01-07-2011 11:13 AM

good luck

Eliminating the bottle of Smirnoff for breakfast will certainly do the trick.

cam_girls 01-07-2011 03:33 PM

Looks like I got another years dieting to go!

Thanks for the tip on the treadmill - 3 times a day, will give it a shot.

Usually I'd just go for a walk but 3 trips a day is spastic so the treadmill sounds good.

How much of an incline? What speed? Measure your heartrate before and after?

I bought this 'Reebok i-run' treadmill, from this company.

I Dont know the incline setting exactly, cause it only has one. Either inclined or not... You'll see it in the video. Actually the video says the incline is 4%

Didn't bother with heart rate measurements, or speed settings 'per say'... Just walk at a speed that gives you 1.3 miles in 20 mins. Theres a distance and time display on the treadmill

The key thing is that I have it next to my desk. I also have a TV on the desk. So I can just get up, and take 3 paces, and be on the treadmill. Much better than going out for a walk.

I can still see the computer if need be, or stop to answer the phone or doorbell, and its so quick and simple that I really DONT notice I am doing it.

Also, being in the UK, the weather isnt allways great, so if I have to put on outdoor clothes etc, I coud spend more than 20 mins getting dressed and undressed after the walk! But I dont have any of that. I just get up, and do it. Simples...

Art first, its tempting to go on your new toy a lot... But the novelty soon wears off. Thats why I just do 3 X 20 mins a day, and no more. I dont get bored, or over tired, and I hardly notice that I am doing it.

Thing is, I am in my 40's, and have a life away from exercise and worrying about my weight. I just find that this is an ideal way to lose weight, without really trying :)

Good luck !

ShellyCrash 01-07-2011 04:41 PM

Congrats man!

If you do 1.3 miles in 20 mins your moving at about 3.9 miles an hour. That's a pretty good clip. 4 miles is damn near a jog for me, but then again I'm short.

Very very awesome you were able to make such a difference making adjustments that you didn't feel were huge lifestyle changes for you.

KillerK 01-07-2011 04:45 PM

If you are at 3.9, you are noticing it.

Maybe at 2.5 speed you could say you wouldn't notice it.

Congrats on making an effort to not be a fat ass

JosephFM 01-07-2011 04:54 PM

Wow dude, that's amazing and motivating!

I'm gonna get my fat ass up and try to do the same.

Keep it up!

Klen 01-07-2011 05:34 PM

Nice i am also in losing weight progress, dropped from 115 to 105 kg,goal it to reach 80 kg.

thickcash_amo 01-07-2011 05:55 PM

congrats on all that weight lost! I bet you feel soo much better!

Scotty.T 01-08-2011 08:52 AM

Well done. I'm inspired. :)

By your reckoning then, I should be able to still have my fried bubble and squeak breakfasts, chinky's 2-3 times per week and a deep-fried Mars bar or two and still lose weight :)

martinsc 01-09-2011 01:22 AM

great job :thumbsup

AmeliaG 01-09-2011 02:42 AM

Kickass! Congrats :thumbsup

I took up hiking this past year and I go walk in the park every day now. I live right by a park though.

I have a giant thing of exercise equipment I bought a few years back, but I never even figured the machine out really. Probably something more straightforward, like what you bought, would have been a way better purchase. Good thinking and nice tip to share :thumbsup

Davy 01-09-2011 03:11 AM

Well, now your ribcage looks weird...
But congrats. Better to carry that bowling ball around.

Agreed. At a 4 setting incline, and a 3.9 speed, you are definitely going to feel that.

In regards to the O.P., congrats on the year of progress. The hardest thing to do it make that first step. Once you start seeing the results, you are motivated to keep going!

LadyMischief 02-02-2011 10:38 AM

Congrats! I know how it is! I've lost 90 pounds since June 2010, all through hard work and exercise.. I'm about 5 pounds from my target weight right now. It all pays off in the end!

Tom_PM 02-02-2011 11:20 AM

Keep up the good work :)
