You'll like it... you should go. They only do the light shows on the hour, though... So, don't show up at 10 minutes after or you'll have a wait. :-)

ShellyCrash 01-04-2011 10:36 PM

Oh man! Makes me wish I didn't sit this one out.

Went and slummed it up proper last year. I fucking love old town. Somone down a yard of margarita for me ;)

Honez 01-05-2011 12:20 AM

Oh this little outing is shaping up quite nicely :) Kudos for thinking of it Kristin!

In route I know some GREAT Asian Massage Rubdown places we can stop by for a quick visit.

boneprone 01-05-2011 12:29 AM

How have you people never been to Fremont Street? Its the original Vegas.
I remember going down there well before they had that roof for the light show.

It was a major dump back then. Dying.. That covering saved the place. I remember going into some of those dive hotels and exploring around the back areas and no one would say anything. It was really fucking spooky. Like that movie the Shining.. Empty!! Very strange for Vegas. Lots has changed since then, That was maybe 15 years ago.

Fremont is the best. I just did New Years there. Stayed at The Golden Nugget and partied on the street (it was fucking FREEZING this year!) I love it!

And if you want to eat at one of the best Steak Houses in town...the Binions Steak House is AWESOME. It is so damn old school, you can almost see the ghost of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin eating their steak there on the top of Binions with a gorgeous view of all of Las Vegas. It's really a hidden treasure.

So am I the only person that doesn't think Fremont St is anything special?

Its not.. But it has history. And if you really learn about the history there, like anything with history it makes it the more special when you are actually there.

Its the history there that makes it for me. Some of it is kinda dumpy but I like it. Has a historic old school feel to it.

After what Robbie said I want to check out the steak place at Binnons..

This year, I'm doing it. Anyone else love the old strip?

And if anyone wants to join us - Friday, 1030pish.

Man! I am shooting that night...if it gets rescheduled, as 1/2 of them do, I'll see if I can get ahold of you!

Walking into one of those places is like walking into Grandma's attic. The musty smell. The low ceiling. The spookiness factor.

Wish I was in Vegas now... damn...

a little tip for all the cigar smokers:

about 100 yards from Fremont Street (in the direction of El Cortez Casino) there's a famous cigar shop owned by a guy who also delivers to people like Sylvester Stallone etc.

i think it was this one: http://lovocigars.com

I didn't even know Fremont Street was the "old school Vegas"!

Why didn't anybody tell me when I was there last year??? I'd love to see the old casinos...

kristin 01-05-2011 03:58 PM

I'm gonna guess seven actually go. =)

hacktic 01-05-2011 06:34 PM

i staying at the Golden Nugget Friday -> Saturday to do Fremont Street

DoubleD 01-05-2011 06:57 PM

ah damn, I love Fremont - it just feels sweet down there, like you're in that old bond movie, Diamonds are Forever ( the the best movie I know but hey). But it is cool, the gold nugget, etc there are plenty of folks still on here that can attest to the fun had down there...

Best Vegas story came from outside the Golden Nugget - was down there with a big crew for a show years back - we stayed at the Venetian (as was the style at the time) and earlier I had their "sunday pasta" - beware - well outside the golden nugget later on i knew something was up, and threw up all over the outside - very embarrassing.

The best part, just outside and within sight and earshot of my sickness, Fear Factor crew were filming a special, they rushed over, gave me ginger ale so quick - I guess if you're going to be sick, be around Fear Factor personnel - they know their stuff lol

kristin 01-06-2011 09:05 AM

Anyone else?
