online porn has been like this for a very long time - there are 3 types of paysites now - Walmart(Porn.com), Big Box stores (Brazzers network, RK, Bangbros) and boutiques(Twistys). There are customers for all of them.

Yeah, I think they are shifting focus to the future. They have a great product and what I thought was brilliant was offering the full DVD on the tour but limits the surfer to like 1-2 minutes however the surfer can choose whatever two minutes of the movie to watch. So while others were playing catchup, VB was already in a good position to seek other objectives.

low grade, cut off, grainy dvd content is not what we sell at all so I don't understand how you can compare what we sell to what is on tube sites for free... and anything we find on any of those file sharing sites gets shut down as soon as we spot them with DMCA's

Webmasters often forget that they are completely jaded compared to the average surfer when it comes to viewing porn. They have been looking at it daily for hours on end for YEARS where the average surfer maybe has a look a few times a week for an hour or so... IF THAT.

If you are able look at a site like you would if you haven't seen thousands already, like you don't watch it all the time.. you may get a better handle of what your customer is seeing as well.

The big tubes are full of malware and spyware now. You will see a migration back to good solid affordable sites next year.

Since I only work in the Asian niche I must say that I have stopped looking inside other members areas a long time ago. I got really fed up with most Asian sites offering their members almost no content and the third party feeds are non Asian content. There are a few really good Asian sites out there, but most of are run by companies that has absolutely no knowledge about Asian content. The few sites that focus on finding the best looking babes that there members are dying to get more content with are the winners in the end. A niche site can never compete with the more "mainstream" porn site in quantity, but most of us know what our members are looking for and give it to them.

AFF probably has the most user submitted content of any "members" section sites I've seen.

And the boutique or niche sites biggest enemy has to be the surfer boards that have an insane amount of links on them.

We tested this traffic tool that shows where most of your competition is getting their traffic from.

One site mentioned in this thread gets a majority from spamming those free loader boards.

I was also surprised to see AFF has 250,000 user submitted videos in their members area, no model releases, id's etc... Prob. the biggest collection of amateur porn out there. I have no idea if any of it is dvd, but to me it looks legit amateur.

solo girl sites get killed by it and other than sending out DMCA notifications there's nothing to do about it. I have one file hosting site who is daring me to sue them, they ignore my DMCA emails yet there are other sites who do get their content taken down. I need to hire a lawyer to investigate the owner of the file hosting site Oron.com to see if he has any assets - no point in suing broke people.

there is free promo in it but that's far outweighed by the damage the piracy does - guys who would have joined the site but don't because they can get it from the forums/file hosters for free.
