5 Ridiculous things you probably believed about Muslims

A conservative commentator (yes, it was Glenn Beck haha) recently made headlines by claiming 10 percent of all of the world's Muslims are terrorists. An amazing claim, considering that equals 150 million terrorists and if each were to pull off an attack killing just 40 people, they could exterminate all non-Muslim life on earth.

I think the word "terrorist" is waaaayyyyy overused.

Seems like every nut case that blows his own crotch up on an airplane is now a "terrorist" (sort of like "weapons of mass destruction" was originally supposed to mean nuclear weapons and now just means any bomb).

Having said that...I'd bet that far more than 10% of Muslims do cheer on the guys who stand up to the U.S. (the ones we call terrorists or "insurgents", even though those "insurgents" are fighting against us in their own country lol)

It's only human nature. You root for the home team. Doesn't mean that they are all "terrorists" or going to suddenly start fighting the U.S. army or setting their shoes on fire on an airplane.

But I do think most Muslims sympathize with the crazy ones that do shit. Just like we in the Western world tend to sympathize with our "side"

Dunno. I have never sympathized with any of our people blowing shit up (war is not included.) There are enough regular, law abiding Americans to side with that I see no reason to side with some wingnut that decides to blow up a federal building.

is prison supposed to be a fun experience?

ever seen the show scared straight?

all the guards were doing was trying to scare the terrorist out of those rags...

if they wanted to be inhumane, they would have shipped them to some of the US prisons where they would have been raped and killed...

Just now I read a news report on this Nuclear Arms Treaty with Russia and I was thinking that at the end of the day the truth is there are really no different than us, and it's utterly stupid that we've invested so much time, effort, and money into fighting the cold war.

It's no different with Muslims. I have a Muslim friend; He lives in Phoenix. He wears pants just like I do, and lives in the suburbs just like I do. He gets the mail from his mail box every day, just like me. Other than the fact that he fasts from time to time, you would never know he was muslim. What we have is a bunch of hard core fanatics who believe so strongly in their religion that they think we are evil and must be destroyed.

It's rather comical really.

Any muslim i know cannot stand the fact of suicide bombers.

Just like any westerner with half a brain does agree with the killings going on over there.

The average person has sympathy for both sides, do not let the media fool you that the average muslim roots for any side. it is simply not fact.

The Muslims I'm referring to are not you guy's buddies.

I am talking about the majority of them who live in third world countries and hate the U.S. for our policies. And no...I'm not saying that they think it's great for folks to kill people.

But I am saying that when 9-11 happened there was celebration in the streets in a lot of Arab countries. And Bin Laden became a folk hero to a lot of young muslims.

Do I think for one second that a successful American businessman who is Muslim thinks that 9-11 was cool? Hell no.
But his teenage son might...

EDIT: Keep in mind I'm not saying that any of the people I'm referring to are "terrorists" (a bullshit word that has been redefined by our govt.). What I'm saying is that a lot of them secretly think: "YEAH!" when they see underdog rag tag peasants somehow strike a blow against the U.S. It's only natural.

so what do you call someone who gets on a plane with a bomb in the crotch of their pants?

and the phrase *weapons of mass destruction* was 1st used decades PRIOR to nuclear weapons, i believe it was coined during ww1 or around that time.

The ones that hate the US policies are turned into terrorists. Everyone else is affected and would not be "cheering". The majority of the people in these 3rd world countries do not even have a TV or network to broadcast such a world event.

Who was cheering? Where did you see this?

"Arab countries". Which countries were cheering? You say the term "terrorist" is broad, then you go ahead and use "Arab countries" and another broad statement.

if you do not see the problem i do not know what to say.

I call that 19 year old who blew his nuts up with the equivalent on an m80 firecracker a crazy attention whore who THOUGHT he was "fighting" for a "cause".

I never heard the term "weapons of mass destruction" before until it was used to describe nuclear weapons. But I could see where it would apply to chemical weapons as well.
I was just shocked when I saw that recent incident where the FBI goaded that idiot into trying to blow up a Christmas gathering. Then they sold him fake explosives. And when he tried to blow up the fake bombs...they charged him with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction! Even though there wasn't a bomb.

I think he should have been charged with trying to bomb a Christmas gathering. But instead of being labeled a nutcase criminal...he's a terrorist. In my opinion that's just being used to keep us all scared. Hell, if I wanted to blow something up...I wouldn't have a clue how to find explosives. But I guess if the FBI were setting up fake websites to sell explosives to me then I might be more tempted to carry it out and become "famous"

I really think our govt. uses entrapment a lot. But that's just my opinion.

MetaMan, I still think that human nature trumps your incredible knowledge of the Arab world.

I don't care if they are Muslim, Chinese, Indian, or some dumb redneck in Alabama. Human nature tends to cause a lot of people to "root" for the "hometeam".

Anyway, it's just my opinion. I don't need to be "lost" to have an opinion on human nature. Think what you want. It really doesn't matter what either one of us thinks...and that's the only thing said in this thread that can't be disputed. lol

You have an opinion based on nothing but what you think. So do I. No biggie. I'm just adding to the conversation.

I am also just adding to the conversation. I am responding to you because I view you as a somewhat intelligent (i dont think anyone is fully intelligent) person.

Talk to anyone that has ever been in dire circumstances the last thing you root for is anymore violence on either side.

it is just pure fact. humanity has no home team when you are in the worst of worst situations. if you do not understand what she is saying in the video i am quoting you with i just do not know what to say.

you are blinded into thinking a "home team" exists honestly that is all i am saying.

I am no expert on the muslim world but i am being honest and telling you i used to to think the same way as you until i decided to start to read, listen and learn from people instead of basing everything i hear on the news as personal fact.

I agree with you on not basing stuff on the news as fact.

But I still think it's human nature for people to do what I said. And I know how teenagers act out too. Teen boys are about the most dangerous animal on Earth.

Fully agreed on teenage boys, and young men. That is purely why government targets them for any kind of "service".

I do not believe human nature is "evil" or likes "evil" in anyway shape or form.

You can tell by reading alot of GFYers responses who have served. You lay into someones head a certain ideology they become so blinded right or wrong no longer matters as long as there is an excuse and a flag to fly.

This has less to do with human nature and more about what people are told their nature SHOULD BE.

The arabs world media spins just like the western world media spins.

nice convo! back to work! ill check here later.

Lets ignore the fact that you're an ignorant, unintelligent middle aged men and focus on this quote. If you do not believe humans are evil or human nature is evil, do you believe that humans are inherently good and that it is "outside" forces that cause them to do evil?

Reports and images of Palestinians from East Jerusalem, Nablus, and Lebanon taking to the streets in celebration, were broadcast around the world.[20] with many newspapers, magazines, Web sites and wire services running photographs.[23][24] The PNA claimed such celebrations were not representative of the sentiments of the Palestinian people, and the Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo said the PNA would not allow "a few kids" to "smear the real face of the Palestinians". In an attempt to quash further reporting, Ahmed Abdel Rahman, Arafat's Cabinet secretary, said the Palestinian Authority could not "guarantee the life" of an Associated Press (AP) cameraman if footage he filmed of post-9/11 celebrations in Nablus was broadcast. Rahman's statement prompted a formal protest from the AP bureau chief, Dan Perry

huge celebrations in palestina

Ok im not going to argue the fact i am sure some were celebrating somewhere. but i can find someone who celebrates taking a shit. it doesnt really mean anything on the broader view.

you are taking the original conversation about "rooting for the home team" out of context.

how is this somehow rooting for the home team?

and all my point was it is pure propaganda against the Palestinians. We do it to them and they do it to us. Ignorance does not mean being able to look at both sides of a situation it in fact means the complete opposite.

What is amazing to me is not the things that Glenn Beck gets wrong, it's the incredibly high number of things he gets RIGHT.

I read this sometime ago , wonder how true it is?

For years, Danes lauded multiculturalism and insisted they had no problem with the Muslim customs - until one day they found that they did. Some major issues:

* Living on the dole: Third-world immigrants - most of them Muslims from countries such as Turkey, Somalia, Pakistan, Lebanon and Iraq - constitute 5 percent of the population but consume upwards of 40 percent of the welfare spending.

* Engaging in crime: Muslims are only 4 percent of Denmark's 5.4 million people but make up a majority of the country's convicted rapists, an especially combustible issue given that practically all the female victims are non-Muslim. Similar, if lesser, disproportions are found in other crimes.

* Self-imposed isolation: Over time, as Muslim immigrants increase in numbers, they wish less to mix with the indigenous population. A recent survey finds that only 5 percent of young Muslim immigrants would readily marry a Dane.

* Importing unacceptable customs: Forced marriages - promising a newborn daughter in Denmark to a male cousin in the home country, then compelling her to marry him, sometimes on pain of death - are one problem.

Another is threats to kill Muslims who convert out of Islam. One Kurdish convert to Christianity, who went public to explain why she had changed religion, felt the need to hide her face and conceal her identity, fearing for her life.

* Fomenting anti-Semitism: Muslim violence threatens Denmark's approximately 6,000 Jews, who increasingly depend on police protection. Jewish parents were told by one school principal that she could not guarantee their children's safety and were advised to attend another institution. Anti-Israel marches have turned into anti-Jewish riots. One organization, Hizb-ut-Tahrir, openly calls on Muslims to "kill all Jews . . . wherever you find them."

* Seeking Islamic law: Muslim leaders openly declare their goal of introducing Islamic law once Denmark's Muslim population grows large enough - a not-that-remote prospect. If present trends persist, one sociologist estimates, every third inhabitant of Denmark in 40 years will be Muslim.

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that

Jews, Muslims, Christians; all merely fruit(cakes) fallen from the same poison tree, all believing in primitive Bronze Age superstition and all having in the foundations of their particular strain of superstitous mental infection, violence, hatred and abuse of women and children and weird and not-so-wonderful tales made up by old, sexually repressed men who created the mythology to try to explain things they could not understand.

It will be a great day for all human kind when and if it decides that such pathetic and pithy explanations are not necessary; that there are simply things that we do not and quite possible will never be able to understand and hopefully on that day all of human kind decides to stop punishing itself through "religion" and just lets it go.

It is long past time for human kind to stop torturing itself on the various crosses of "religion"!
