Was there any severely hyped movie more disappointing than Star Wars: Phantom Menace?

Post your hyped/highly anticipated movies that were a big letdown. Mine is Phantom Menace.

Phantom Menace has to be pretty high on the list. For me it is any of the Matrix movies. The first one was decent and they second was super hyped and sucked bad. I never bothered with the third and hear I am not missing much.

You're right. You didn't miss anything with REVOLUTIONS... Except maybe a raging desire to get your money back. That movie sucked.

oh, and.. i was really (REALLY!) disappointed by "live free or die hard".
i know, it's prolly blasphemic.. but (imho) that flick was by FAR the worst of the series.

Wolverine (could have been so much better, and they seriously screwed up Deadpool)

Legion (just awful)

Phantom Menace (Empire Strikes Back FTW)

I'm a sucker for comic book movies, but most of them are big letdowns

Yeah, I hear you about Iron Man 2. Besides the kickass ACDC songs, it didnt really offer much. The Thor movie trailer is looking pretty sick though. Would be interesting to see how the Avengers movie pans out.

What about contact - you watch the whole movie to see the aliens, and its her father - what a waste of 2 hours.

The first new Hulk movie (not the one with Edward Norton) and Austin Powers 3. I'd say Indy 4 as well but honestly I enjoyed it for what it was. A bad Indy movie is still better than 90% of the shit out there.

Honestly, Titanic for how much it made wasn't all that either. Sure, VISUALLY amazing in parts, but otherwise kinda meh.

War of the Worlds remake is another.

And lastly, speaking of Star Wars movies, the 3rd in the new trilogy was the only one of the new trilogy I ever saw (not a fan of the original Star Wars to begin with) and I thought it fucking sucked.

Christ, I knew I forgot one - #1 on my list, ARMAGEDDON. Is THE only movie ever that I've fallen asleep to.

I slept outside the theater for 1 day for tickets to that, dressed as Han Solo. We finally get tickets, sit down, the movie starts.... huge hype... the scrolling Star Wars text starts, and the movie fucks up and shuts off. THE PLACE WENT FUCKING NUTS!!! That is probably an understatement. It was chaos.

The movie would not play for about 10 minutes, so no one had any idea what they were or were not missing. The theater manager came in and told everyone that he was sorry but they could not start the movie over but they were working to fix it. I snapped, as did everyone else. I was in this guys face SCREAMING at him and so was many others. He's lucky someone didn't stab him, it was a hostile crowd.

So... we lost about the first 10 mins after waiting all those years and sleeping out for tickets. Then the movie sucked total ass.

It was a huge disappointment and epic failure for those of us in that theater.

The second Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

The third one wasn't disappointing. I knew it was going to be shit and, indeed, it didn't disappoint in that respect.

Really? I thought it was okay. Not as good as Daniel Craig's debut in the James Bond role (Casino Royale) but it was decent.

I thought Casino Royale was brilliant then Quantum of Solace almost felt like a waste of the price of the cinema tickets.

Well, to be fair the whole point of the hype was that it was watchable crap.

I mean, reading between the lines it was like: "We made this piece of crap with no budget and hardly any cast members and it turns out some people can actually watch it"

So in that sense it didn't disappoint.

When you hear about these big budget movies that go incredibly over budget and end up costing over 200 million to make, you kind of expect they should be something special to see when it hits the theaters.

But usually that is a sign they will suck. Example: Waterworld and Battlefield Earth.

At least Waterworld was watchable, but there was no indication where the 200 million went. Most of the movie was just them on a small boat in the middle of some water. I guess the floating island cost them most of the money, with the thing constantly sinking on them. I bet they wish they would have just done the whole thing with CGI.
