it's not terribly hard to take them over, just make up a statement using their lingo and memes and it will be taken as an ingroup pronouncement, post as an image with the anonymous logo, and you're set

I don't see the point of going after gawker since they didn't do anything against wikileaks...

A lot of them are kids and good for them. I am glad to see that they have to knowledge to do some of the things that they do. I personally would not spend time on something unless I was getting paid for it.
