    .htaccess php question - allow_url_fopen

on my virtual hosting account with dream host, they dont allow allow_url_fopen in the php to be enable therefore i cant run some hardlink trade scripts. THey tell me i can compile my own php but i dont know how in the fuck to do that and its just for this option. Is there an htacess command that will overide it?

    any thoughts or ideas?

Dreamhost provides a more secure workaround. Checkout http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Allow_url_fopen for instructions.

First thing is why do you need to do this, exactly what are you trying to pull in and how are you trying to use it? If I know what you're trying to do i can probably help.

If your trying to run remote scrips by doing that then evaling the code, then you could have a serious security issue on your hands.

If your just trying to read in content to use on your site, some type of feed etc... there are other ways to do it.

As far as compiling your own php, if they are going to allow you to do that and then set the php.ini settings on that compile to allow_url_fopen they mine as well let you do it now. (it makes no sence, lol)
