    Video Encoding Question

I have video from a MiniDV that I've captured, and it produced an avi format video. I'd like to encode that video with either the XviD codec or the DivX codec, preferrably the XviD.

The software I possess are hahahahahahas Movie Maker 2.0, VirtualDub 1.5.10, and MGI VideoWave III version 3.5. The first one, hahahahahahas MM 2.0 produces the best results, but nowhere near the result I'm looking for.

An example of the result I'm looking for are the movies shown at GapeThatAss.com or ClubHardBall.com, both of which are members of the Deluxepass network. Their movies are greater than 480 x 360, and the quality is outstanding, considering the relatively compact size of the file.

Now, from what I'm seeing, the videos seem to just be taken from a DVD and ripped into the format that they are currently in (with the XviD codec). I'm willing to try this approach.

For those of you who encode these videos, could you tell me how you do it and the software and hardware that you use? Thanks!
I'm hoping my site http://www.meetourladies.com will relieve me from my day job.

for compression, virtual dub is probably best. It is flexible and since you will be pulling from DV some filters might hel and vdub seems to have a good variety. Don't forget to check the interlace and you should be good. Also resolutions divisible by 16 are going to be the most efficient.
