Time to rethink Hosting - advice?

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I currently have a small amount of sites, let's say 8. The sites are split among 4 different Hosting providers that accept adult content. Each on a shared hosting scenario.

I would like to rethink my strategy. Maybe I can have all 8 in a single hosting service; and each on its own IP address? How about private hosting/VPS? Would it be too expensive? Cloud hosting for adult?

What do you recommend SEO wise? Shared hosting gives me the creeps; getting hacked due to someone else's fault sounds silly.

A small advice to the point is greatly appreciated.

You current scenario looks fine,better then having everything on single host due following:
1)Better resistance in case of host disaster,you dont lose all sites just part of it
2)Better seo picture,since they you have then 4 different A/C classes meaning you can freely interlink between them.For seo you dont need to have dedicated ip,only in case if you have tons of domains

I can usually fit about 20 or so Wordpress blogs on a shared host account using 1 IP (you really don't need all these different IPs, it's not going to make a difference unless you are trying to sell hardlinks or split up adult and mainstream website).

You could also pickup a cheap VPS from Quadranet Infracloud, Ramnode, Digital Ocean, VULTR, INIZ (there's many more on lowendbox.com) and stick a free panel like Webmin/Virtualmin or VestaCP on there to manage your website if you're not comfortable with commandline and managing your own VPS...there's also good managed VPS provided like Wired Tree or Knownhost but you'll be paying $40+ a month

If your sites are different in content, don't bother to get different IPs... It's a total waste... I recommend cloud hosting, which works with onapp.

I would stay with different providers for SEO as long as you also use different whois info and hostmaster emails. You are right about concerns with shared hosting, but some providers are pretty good while others aren't. Scanning webhosting boards and review sites helps a lot to find the jewels.

You could learn how to setup linux servers and then VPS would be the best choice.

Given the following hosting providers, which one would you get rid of?

a- Servage
b- GoDaddy
c- DreamHost

Maybe I can push more domains into one of them, and get rid of at least 1 provider.

I'm not sure if it would be right for you, but have you considered cloud hosting? Setup an account with someone like Amazon or Peer1 Networks and you can create your own server, add or remove CPU's, Hard disk space, etc, even specify the operating system you want. This way you can put all of your domains on it, add more power to the server if you need it, or split it off into a second server, etc... it could even end up being cheaper for you.

I'm not sure but maybe Mojohost offers this service. If they don't offer cloud then for sure they have the best prices and services in the industry. Mojohost is also a sponsor of GFY and usually sponsors lots of industry events too so they would definitely deserve your business, and could probably compete well for your business too.

Why? If he has lots of properties, wouldn't it make sense to keep them with the same host? He is more likely to get faster and better service, reduced prices, etc.. What would be the reason to keep his websites all on different hosts?

Thank you all! I'm very familiar with apache and command line configurations, so that wouldn't be a problem.

I had VPS/cloud in mind as I thought maaaaybe newer scenarios were stepping on the traditional shared hosting business model. Less expensive, more adaptable?

Anyone aware on Adult content policies for hostings/vps/cloud these days? Is it "all good"? I don't upload content - I'm only frontends to webcam programs.

Let me give you one trick regarding collecting hosting accounts -
1.Always use vps instead shared hosting,because then you have far greater control over how your resources are spend
2.Check site like lowendbox.com for cheap deals

Yeah you can just get a cheap dedicated box for $30 - $60 pm and many will come with 5 or so usable IPS but you can buy more. These days I wouldn't worry too much about Google seeing the same IP or network unless you are doing extreme blackhat SEO. They have too many other ways to find you anyway.

The second largest traveling Agency is one of my clients, and they rank #1-5 on Google for the terms they want.

They have different sites/brand-names for each niche, but all are travle-related.

All sites(35+) use the same load-balancer, so any Searchengine will see it as hosted on the same server.

So how much does different IP's matter these days? I dont know your business-model, but 95% of you are better of saving $$$, by hosting it all on the same box/cluster.
