Domain-Names ?

Hi folks I am sort of new at this so here I go with a question that I am sure every body knows the answer to.

I am buying domains for blogs, white page sites and just general one and two page sites.

I believe that most all traffic will be clic through traffic.

How important is it to have a single name name over a domain with hyphen?

Example blues-shows.com VS bluesshows.com

And is the com important or can we use the cheapest thing we can find. Like ASIA or something similar.

A domain with hyphen is only good in central europe. But not international.

So I am understanding that .com is better than others and that hyphen or two word domains don't work well..

Also domains are searched as key words..

Hmmmmm

Thanks

.com is best, if you can get for your keyword that is your best choice. Check it in MS as above said, they have free trial and training vids. Exact monthly, competition..etc.

I like hyphenated two-keyword domain names

Consider that many site / domain names are more than one word.

The hyphen shows where those two words "split" and is important for SEO

Let me pick on AWE for an example: their site, maturescam.com, can be seen two ways:

"Matures Cam" > the way they doubtlessly hope you'll read it, and

"Mature Scam" > a message you don't want your prospect seeing...

a hyphenated Matures-Cam.com solves this problem, at least for the search engines

The best bet is to have both the hyphenated and non-hyphenated versions so you can capture any type-ins (which won't likely include the hyphen)

Just to set the facts straight here....
blues-shows.com is better then bluesshows.com. The reason is the way the search engines see the domain...blues-shows.com is seen as two words, Blues Shows. So if your targeting the keyword "Blues Shows" then of course you will prefer blues-shows.com over bluesshows.com because blueshows is just seen as one word that is irrelevant to the term your seeking here.

Ok, but with that said, Google has been making a bit of a thing lately about branding, so the domain keywods will have less effect for them then before...or at least that is what they want us to believe...but then google are masters of deception, so I really dont believe them.

Best of luck.

From an appealing to visitors perspective, hyphens suck. From an SEO perspective, they're as good if not better than non-hyphen based on what I hear from many people.

That said, while .com performs best most of the time, .org performs well too as does .net (in that order). It's not always easy to say whether it's better going with non-hyphen .net or .org vs. hyphen .com but I personally would. Hyphen looks more spammy and cheap and ultimately you want people to trust your site and spend money on it (or trust your links to other sites where they spend money).

FYI, we sell exact match com/net/org domains if you may have interest. We have a vast selection of nice ones and are just starting to develop on them ourselves, so pricewise they'll be going up soon.

a few months ago flippa the website auction site launched a 'state of the web economy' report with the first topic of discussion being website domains.

the report found that hypens on average reduced a website value by 26%, they also found that shooting elephants (godaddy) does not really harm your sales figures!

find the full reprt here: flippa[dot]com/blog/state-of-the-website-economy-focus-on-website-domains/

US traffic should only use .com for max bang for the buck

Hyphens can help with keywords in your URL if you have any but suck if you are expecting to brand your url to consumers.

If you are just looking for search engine traffic you could consider .net or .org but don't go with anything else as its argued that many other .endings dont carry as much rank value in Google.

If you are trying to brand dont use the hyphen. But if possible buy the hyphen and non hyphen if you are building a legit site.
