Both the US and the Soviet Union raided Germany after WWII and took the best and brightest. Of course you only hear about the US doing it because "USA is the worst ever, etc. etc.". OP do you think if the US disappeared that the rest of the world would hold hands and sing kumbaya?Comment

There was a mad rush, or grab for Germany's brightest people, as well as all of their tech. One of the most notable was Wernher von Braun, creator of the V2 Rockets that terrorized Britain. Then came to the U.S. and is pretty much the founding father of NASA. The list goes on and on. Even the current U.S. military helmet is designed after the original SS helmets. The Germans were some fucked up people, but they had fucking style and they knew their shit.

A lot of those in the German military weren't really Nazis. A lot of the higher ranking officers had started years before the Nazi party existed, and were just doing their job.Herschel Savage

The question I have - and, to be truthful, the PROBLEM I have - is I find it hard to believe that the instant the war was over all those Nazis just POOF! disavowed their Nazism like flicking a light switch, don't you? "We are not Nazis now!! Heil Hit - um, Heil Truman!"

one part of Germanys success after 1945 was integrating all the teachers, judges etc and also lots of former military back into society - the allies rightfully knew that for a functioning society, you need people who know how to run it.

VERY true. The Allies were highly concerned about a German uprising after the war if all those Nazis were around with nothing to do. But perhaps you get what I mean: in their HEARTS I find it difficult to understand how the average everyday Nazi (whether he/she was a teacher, judge, whoever) could just switch off their allegiance and idealogy. Suddenly Germany was not racist? Suddenly the Jews were ok?
Once a person firmly believes in something - his church, his political viewpoint, anything - it's almost impossible to change that belief. Try talking rational things to a crazy Republican (or Democrat). LOL

WOW!! Props to you Sir! Not because your grandparents were Nazis. LOL But because you actually literally paid a price for pointing out the (painful) truth. That took real courage - even if you didn't know about the disinheritance at the time.
My parents are German/Dutch on my dad's side and German/British on my mom's (or 'mum's') side with a little Apache indian thrown in for good measure. My great-great-great-grandparents came here from Germany in mid-1800's and settled in Pennsylvania. That's where great-great-great-granddad met an Apache woman seperated from the tribe and relocated after Cochise's conquest. I love that story while it also sickens me.
But fuck it man. You could probably buy and sell your grandparents by now anyway so good riddance to Nazi gold.
