If you're looking to the future, start considering a 4K camera:

My last few video cameras (I buy them in pairs) were Sony's, and I loved them (after having been a Canon video shooter for years).

That looks cool. Nice to see such innovation from down under. I heard some buzz when they purchased Da Vinci systems, but had not looked at BlackMagic closely yet.

I think it would be smart to film in 4K as the networks are considering to bump it up. Tear.

Future proof, go 4K

Under $5k? I love my Sony FS100. I am going to pick up a used FS700 in the next year, but would definitely recommend the FS100 as it's a great camera and in your price range. You're already familiar with Sony, so it should be an easy fit for you.

I'm going to hold off on 4K for another year or two. My buddy has been waiting on his Blackmagic for months now. The shipping date gets pushed back weekly.
