I have two separate movies in my netflix queue by that title. One from 2003 and one from 2011.
The 2011 title looks better, won't be here until the end of the month though.
2011... if you are looking for the meaning of life or tying to find out why you are a failure this isn't the movie for you.... if like like cool shit, hot chicks and great music... this is a great movie....
the film is "misleadingly positioned as female empowerment despite clearly having been hatched as fantasy fodder for 13-year-old guys"
The movie was more than, Hot Females, Comic book action, Guns.
There was a huge underlying story.
I think the movie was very clever.
It made some people happy with hot chicks.
It made some people happy with Graphics.
It made some people happy with gun fighting comic action scenes.
It challenged some peoples brains as to what the movie was about.
the DVD releases are available for purchase a month before it hits redbox or netflix.
Also,
you can usually rent it on demand the same day as dvd. It's just a way to get that first month of sales before it goes dirt cheap to redbox and netflix.
I read the plot lines on wiki before I watched the film.... so I was able to see how it was put together etc... pretty fucking cool... at the end when the 'high roller' is speaking with 'babydoll' about truth/love/freedom ect it's all really about the lobotomy... very very cool

Definitely not. I don't think I have ever experienced so much style over substance ever.
Snyder needs to stick with someone else actually coming up with something remotely resembling that little thing known as "plot".
I am actually one of the few people that I know that would admit to liking his efforts on "Watchmen", and he did a great job renovating "Dawn of the Dead" imo. "300" is pretty darn cheesy but I still get a kick out of it due to that inner 13 year old dude thing that us guys never let go of.
I had high hopes for "Sucker Punch" but it just was a slew of crap, mostly begged and borrowed from other sources, but done without the panache or reverence of someone like Tarantino to make it meaningful to the plot.
Go watch "Brazil" again if you want to see something that actually uses the "it was all just a lobotomy",( is it a dream or reality?) conceit well.

several million men suck cock... daily, doesn't mean I'm going to .. I enjoyed sucker punch $.02
You are certainly entitled to your opinion and, if you enjoyed it, enjoying things is good. Still, I generally love stuff with those sorts of visuals, but Zack Snyder explicitly stated in interviews that part of his point was to mock anyone who would like watching sexy chicks in a genre film. Even if the soup still tastes okay after the waiter spits in it, I don't really think folks should want it then.

I would like to see what he said. That sounds seriously pretentious since the only point of the movie was to show sexy girls slicing and shooting stuff and that is precisely what the hook of all the advertising was in no uncertain terms. Sounds to me like he was just trying to make excuses for the lameness and maintain some sort of hipster cool distance from accepting that it just plain sucked.
If the movie actually said anything meaningful about how sick society is because people like to see girls in cute schoolgirl outfits killing things then so be it, nothing wrong with challenging perceptions but he just did a crap job. The characters might as well have been reading bumper stickers instead of a script; in fact, using that many montages no matter how cool the song selection is to move the plot forward just starts to get retarded.

FYI: it's not Shakespeare, it's just a fun movie filled with great effects and some cool music.. that's all. I enjoyed my time spent being wow-ed by the cinematography. I am a visual person. I love first person shooters. and as far as the 'hot chicks' goes... so what? I have 'hot chicks' around all day long. and the movie probably makes more sense than most NBC shows.
seriously Far-L is almost seems a bit crazy to actually expect any kind of knowledge to be imparted to you in a Hollywood film

The movie was just an excuse to show girls in skimpy outfits shooting stuff full of holes in the most stylized way possible -- and that's okay. I like my slow, character driven indie art-house films, but I sure as fuck like to mindlessly watch shit get blowed real good by hot chicks.
Some of you could stand to learn the beauty of appreciating things for what they are, even when it's shit.
It's like all of these pseudo-critics that bash the Transformers movies. It's giant robots beating the dog shit out of each other. People that go to see it are getting what they wanted and then some. If you went for something else, I'd sure like to know what the fuck it was you were expecting.

Hotties in schoolgirl outfits with samurai swords? Yes please. Seeing Transformers 3D tomorrow too.
